Trump & Trade

The media has been swamped lately with the news that Trump has reached his 100th day in office, and if you care to listen, you will find that Trump tells us we’re in the middle of an economic revolution, so we must hold tight and ride it out. But he never explains why the hell we should be losing money in the midst of the greatest economic boom in the last century. His grinding stupidity cannot be excused. Bernie Madoff went to jail for life for a hell of a lot less.

The markets have already lost trillions of your money because of what Trump has done, despite being told over and over not to do it. A non-debate, debate on This Week between Trump’s economic advisor Kevin Hassett and Larry Summers just led us into an open sewer. Hassett is a very bright guy but he’s so into kissing Trump’s ass that he allows the truth to all but disappear. This is especially true when it comes to explaining how he thinks Trump’s policies will help the country. He simply ignores reality in his attempts to defend the undefendable. He would rather see the county fail than see Trump proved wrong, and that’s a recipe for disaster.

Summers, on the other hand, drops the whole mess right on the table, explaining how the tariffs will crush the middle-class consumer and ultimately lead to at least a 2008 style disaster.

That mess was followed by a real debate between Chris Christy and Reince Priebus, in which Priebus tried, unsuccessfully, to establish why the results of Trump’s misdeeds should be seen as surpassing the reality of the damage those moves would produce. Both Priebus and Hassett seem to think that Trump’s economy-destroying tariffs were only imposed to create negotiations over foreign tariffs imposed on our goods shipped to other countries, and as soon as the other countries capitulate, by lowering their tariffs, Trump will do the same. Do they really think he’s bright enough to come up with this on his own?

Trump and all his sycophants keep babbling about how everyone is ripping us off, but the fact is we still have the best economy in the world, at least until Trump finishes working his magic on it. Trump is running the biggest bait and switch scam in history, and it’s going to destroy a perfectly successful economy, ours.

On Sunday, John Barrasso, Republican whip from Wyoming, tried to convince Margaret Brennan that the tariffs would eventually be good for the American people. Of course, Barrasso’s idea of the American economy encompasses only the filthy rich. He proves it by championing Trump’s tax cut bill that will help fill the pockets of the rich and strangle the rest of us.

Scott Bessent, our Treasury Secretary, reacted to the six-trillion-dollar flop of the stock market on Friday by praising what caused it, stating that it generated a great deal of trading. Yeah, you idiot, all bad. This guy is the most pompous, ignorant clown to hold that office in memory and a perfect example of what happens when the president uses loyalty instead of competence as his yardstick in choosing cabinet members.

Trump says there’s no way he can agree to judges taking the authority he is now wielding away from the president, which of course, is nothing that this president, or any other, has ever had. That’s the point of the whole thing. He is acting without legal authority instead of recognizing the existing authority, which lies in congress.

Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana is one very smart dude. He is so smart that he almost makes Trump’s bullshit logic seem to make sense. Almost, but never quite. He’s got this little trick he uses where he lies early in his answers in a way that allows him to be factual in the later part, and thereby conceal the earlier lie.

Scott Bessent is a simpering fool who babbles about trade deals that are provably non-existent, and tells us the point of negotiating tariffs is to bring back high levels of manufacturing. Why? This nation’s economy is a service economy, not a manufacturing economy. Trying to change that is very probably going to destroy what we have, in order to create something that may or may not work.

Just to prove he’s the dumbest clown in any room he enters, Pete Hegseth announced that he is ending the Women, Peace and Security Program of the Department of Defense, calling it another woke, divisive, social justice/Biden initiative that overburdens our commanders and troops, detracting from our core task: WAR FIGHTING. He added that WPS was a United Nations program pushed by feminists and left-wing activists. “Politicians love it, but troops hate it,” he babbled but then, of course, it was explained to him that the program was not something dreamed up by Biden but was actually signed into law by Trump during his first term. How many times does this moron have to fuck up before Trump finally shitcans him?

It’s a bizarre and inexplicable fact that we’ve reached the end of Trump’s first hundred days in office without an armed insurrection. Who’d a thunk it? Here’s a clown with no technical knowledge of anything, yet he’ s forging ahead with a plan built specifically on this lack of knowledge, and using it to destroy most of the programs established to help those most in need of help around the country. Sure, his goal is to reduce the debt, but what good does that do if there is no help for anyone who needs it. What kind of country will Trump leave us, if every program aimed at anything functional is destroyed by this dullard with no sense of what the job of government is.

West Virginia and its coal mining industry have been a stronghold of Trump power for years. It went big for the fat sleaze in ‘24 and in return he has gutted almost all healthcare aimed at stopping the scourge of miners, black lung disease. Worse, he is currently spreading the lie that he will be leading the coal mining business back from the dead. You know “The Dead,” that’s where the rest of the nation will be if Trump continues on the disastrous path he has initiated in his first hundred days in office.

At a recent meeting with Canadian PM Mark Carney, Donald found out that Canada was not for sale. Not today, not tomorrow, not ever, so Donald can just go pound salt.

In order to save some face, Trump announced that his destruction of all our trade deals was going to save the nation over five billion dollars. How, exactly he figured this out must unfortunately be left to the angels because the reality is that we make a shitload of money on trade and that rather than making five billion on the loss of it, we will actually lose around five trillion. This is not a rounding error. This is real and no nation can afford it, especially one being run by a moron.
