The Cost of Free Speech

The big noise from Texas is actually about a Bigoted Bimbo from Broadway and how she conned her dumb as dirt followers from the Lone Star State into having a cartoon contest where artists from that woebegone state, i.e. anyone who can draw a stick figure competed to see who could make the nastiest picture of the Prophet Mohammad. Of course it’s a dumb idea but then look who’s promoting it, a stoned bigot and a bunch of inbred skinhead.

It seems that a couple of Islamic radicals took offense to this exercise and tried to blow the contest away, succeeding only in getting themselves killed, thereby giving said Bigoted Bimbo from Broadway AKA Pamela Geller what she really wants, which is lots of personal publicity. Anyone trying to find a hero in this sad mess will be very disappointed as we have, in this story, nothing but villains.

Ms Geller, who has spent the later part of her pathetic life being offensively wrong about almost everything, immediately started blabbering, incipiently,  about free speech. It’s unfortunate that as much as the obstinately wrong Ms Geller has to say, that she didn’t listen when those who understand such concepts spoke about the responsibilities that go with our rights.

Like the people at Charie Hebdo who got themselves killed because they couldn’t recognize others rights to worship as they please and not have their Gods and prophets attacked by smarmy schoolboy nerds, the losers in Garland, TX were basically shouting fire in a crowded theatre. I expect that this will be too deep a concept for many involved to understand, but that’s what it was.

Look, free speech is one of the basic rights in this country and it is essential that all of us retain it, but with it, goes the responsibility to act as a rational human being. I am not a believer in any religion but I understand that many people are, and that their beliefs should be recognized and respected as long as they do not intrude on the rights of others, which they more often than not do.

It’s unfortunate that Ms Gellar did not have the intestinal fortitude to be at the contest, where if the rest of us were lucky she could have been Charlie Hebdo’d before the cops gunned down the Muslim “terrorists.”

This is probably the most blatant example of everybody being wrong that it’s possible to present. The cartoon contestants deserved to be gunned down for disrespecting someone else’s religion or just for being too stupid to live. The, would be, Islamic terrorists got what they deserved, for trying to stop another from exorcizing their right to free speech, no matter how far out of line they were; and Pamela Geller needed to have been there and been a victim of either the Muslim killers or a stray police bullet just because the world would be a better place without her.

Geller is a person who exudes hatred, recognizes no restrictions other than those she places on others and understands only those syllogisms produced by her twisted logic. She is a boil on the ass of humanity that needs desperately to be lanced.

But back to free speech. The Charlie Hebdo people just like the, draw Mohammad, people were expressing their right by their actions. What they weren’t doing was making an intelligent and responsible choice about how to exercise said right. It may seem hysterical to the moron/artists/martyrs of Charlie Hebdo, to draw funny, disrespectful pictures of Mohammad but I’m positive that those who worship said prophet didn’t feel at all that tickled. Yeah, they over-reacted, but they never would have if Hebdo had kept within the bounds of exercising their right to free speech with a little responsibility. The same goes for the assholes down in Garland.

That’s what this whole thing is about; acting responsibly while exercising your rights. No one has the right to keep you from saying whatever it is you want to say but you absolutely have the responsibility to not say things that are inordinately offensive to others. It’s called civilization. Bill Maher gave a good example the other night using the church down south that’s full of anti-gay jerks and the dialogue they maintain with him, which while definitely adversarial has never come to blows or bullets

Obviously neither the fanatic Muslim minority nor the fascist right wing has been able to educate their followers enough to make any such confrontation civilized and there lies the problem.
