Yes, it’s election time, whether we like it or not, mainly because the media can’t figure out where the real news is so they have decided to make the election news now, a year and a half before it happens. The parties are jumping on but the thing they need most, the thing they have to sell, is how they will run the country if they get elected.
The Democrats are talking about minimum wages, more jobs, infrastructure, the ecology, etc., all ways to get the economy moving again and create a healthy world for us to live in. The Republicans are talking about killing health care, building taller fences along the border, getting rid of what gun law protection we still have and, oh yeah, abortion.
Despite the need for knowing what each candidate plans to do if he or she gets elected, the big discussion today on Morning Joe was about Hillary. Not her plan of governance but her attitude. It’s funny, everyone admits that they love her in person but once she becomes a candidate there are all kinds of problems about her closed shell and cold demeanor. It’s interesting that every one of Joe Scarborough’s sycophants, made this same comment but none of them went on to explain why. They spoke of Elizabeth Warren and Claire McCaskill who were the same people when they ran as they are in private. Just wait until Elizabeth runs for president in eight years. All that love will change.
How could it be, that none of these supposedly smart people don’t realize why Hillary is like this? After all, they are all partially responsible for making her this way.
Last week this column wrote to exactly this subject and wondered why no one seems to see what to us, seems very obvious. If you are attacked, untruthfully, by your opponents from the time you step on the public stage and if the media jumps on and continues to repeat the lies of your attackers, after a while you get gun shy and begin to think of them all as enemies. This was brought out recently, when the NY Times published a scurrilous and almost wholly inaccurate story in which Hillary, it was said, would be indicted for criminal acts because of her handling of her emails. As it turned out the story was one big lie and the follow-up was even worse. This is the kind of “Big Lie,” that you can’t just walk back. Everybody reads and quotes the story because if it’s true, it’s big news, but no one reads or quotes the apology because it isn’t news any more, so the accused is screwed and that’s why Hillary is closed and wary. This kind of crap started happening with Whitewater, right after Bill was elected and it hasn’t stopped in twenty odd years. It’s the Republican’s only plan on how to govern. It’s called get elected and then go hide in the outhouse.
Also watched a discussion on how the GOP is trying to shut down Planned Parenthood. The lack of truth in the discussion was stunning. Senator James White ® Oklahoma was the shill in this case and every statement he made was either a flat out lie or was lacking an elemental ingredient that would make it true.
As they have done many times before when an election approaches and they have developed no plan by which, if they win, they will be able to govern the country, the morally and intellectually bankrupt Republicans have dragged abortion out of the closet and are attempting to make it a major factor in this year’s election. This is not new, guys. This happens every four years.
No one in their right mind is for abortion but there are often circumstances, as often as not brought about by policies of the same idiotic right wingers who oppose abortion, that make it necessary.
Let me quote Sister Joan Chittister O.S.B. who sums up the hypocrisy of the anti-abortion movement with a few brief words. “I do not think that just because you’re opposed to abortion, that makes you pro-life. In fact, in many cases I think your morality is deeply lacking if all you want is a child born but not a child fed, not a child educated, not a child housed. And why would I think that you don’t? Because you don’t want any tax money to go there. That’s not pro-life, that’s pro-birth. We need a much broader conversation on what the morality of pro-life is.”
What she’s saying, in a much nicer way than I ever would, is that those who make this huge stink about abortion and Planned Parenthood are phonies; bullshit artists who care nothing for the aborted fetuses but only for the political clout they can gain from a naïve constituency, that actually believes that men like McConnell, Cruz, Huckabee, Rand, Santorum, Jindal and the like, care about anything but their own careers, and how they can twist any legitimate issue to those ends.
Of course the craziest of the wing nuts, idiots like the list above have brought up the specter of shutting down the government to attain their aims. And what are those aims? According to the most dishonest of the liars involved it is to stop Planned Parenthood from using government money to provide abortions. STOP THE WORLD!
Planned parenthood uses zero government provided dollars for abortions. The government money is used to finance women’s health, , cancer tests and contraception.
Well the religious nuts don’t want to fund contraception regardless of what the nun above has said and what the Pope has recently hinted at. No one seems to care that contraception cuts down big time on abortion. They only care about having an issue that hides the fact that they have no plan to govern.
Then of course there’s the ever open mouthed Donald Trump. He has spent a good deal of his face time on the tube railing against the dysfunction of government, how the government can’t get anything done and the first thing he does as the discussion comes off immigration, is to say that he backs shutting down the government over this phony scheme. You can’t have a functional government if it’s shut down Donald, even a clown like you should recognize that.
What does this all come down to? Welcome to Greece, welcome to The Congo, welcome to the whole Third World where the politicians don’t care about the people they represent as long as they get re-elected and get to stay on the gravy train. Trump, the hypocrite, tells us that he wants to make America great again. Yeah, Donald, and that’s the way to do it, by shutting down the government like any other corrupt politician in some Third World country. The Donald is learning politics fast. Sure he’ll try to make America great, but if he doesn’t, he’ll just file for bankruptcy as he has over and over and just stiff everyone that we owe. That will become the American way under Trump. THAT’S TRUMP’S PLAN OF GOVERNANCE!
