Post Election Views #1

Trump called the Electoral College a disaster after the 2008 election but it’s because of the Electoral College that he won an election even though he lost the popular vote. Where does he stand now? Will he lead a movement to get rid of it? Not bloody likely.

The latest appointments by Donald to his cabinet are pretty scary. Pompeo, Flynn and Sessions all point to a war with the Islamic world, especially Pompeo and Flynn as the head of the CIA and as National Security Advisor. They have gone on record repeatedly a identifying the Muslim religion, rather than individual Muslin organizations like ISIS and al Qaeda as the generator of terrorism. These guys are promoting a crusade against Islam. We have often denigrated Islamist states as never having progressed socially past he Seventh Century. These guys want to take us back to the Tenth Century. That may be a little better but certainly not acceptable. The Crusades are over. They were a huge mistake when they happened. Renewing them will not be an improvement.

Everything Flynn says reminds one of all the mistakes that America has made in foreign policy over the last hundred or so years. It is not our job t save the world or to change its way of doing things. That is a throwback to the missionary period of our history when we dispatched overzealous religionists to convert (read interfere with) the lives of indigenous peoples around the globe.

If Trump’s next appointments are similar to the trio already chosen, we can look forward to being at full out war in the Middle East in the next six months. You all can look forward to your kids being killed for the greater glory of a lying, misogynistic racist and his coterie of self-aggrandizing punks.

There seem to be more reasons why Hillary lost the election than there are commentators to point them out and yes, every one of them contributed to the final result. You can say that she didn’t appeal to the brain dead racist assholes that were Trump’s principal audience. You can say it was about email or the Clinton Foundation both of which were ridiculous attacks when compared to felonies of her opponent, who is a far bigger thief than anyone who ever ran for office in this country and not interested in what is good for anyone other than himself. The perfect example of this is the $25 million that Trump paid up this week to settle the claims against his enormous con in which he flat out stole from simple people in the Trump Non-University scam. He’s a thief pure and simple, and he isn’t about to change his stripes. He has refused to reveal his tax returns with the phony excuse about audits. Anyone who knows anything about tax audits knows this is pure unadulterated bullshit. Now, instead of relieving himself and his family of the companies that his family runs, he is ignoring a long standing position of all former presidents and stands to make billions on deals that his kids will make with him as sitting president. Yes he has announced that he is going to forego the presidential salary and work for the country for a dollar a year but because of his unacceptable stance on the future of Trump Inc. he will be making many more billions because he is the President and in a position to influence policy that will enable this unacceptable activity. And if you don’t think he will be doing this you just haven’t been paying attention.

This guy is a major crook and now thanks to the dummies who didn’t vote and the idiots who voted for third party candidates he is our President.

But is Trump in any way ready to be president? Is he surrounding himself with a crew that has any idea of what they face or even an inkling of how to deal with it? At this point, the answer seems to be a resounding, NO! Trump’s meetings with President Obama have revealed a man who, approaching the presidency, had no idea, of the scope or complexity of the work that a President faced; a replay of the horror show of a lazy, self-indulgent clown, presented in the same situation by George W. Bush.

The lack of preparation by the Trump team is indeed amazing. They didn’t even know that they had to replace the White House staff. They are now faced with having to install competent people in some 4000 government jobs and they don’t know anything about the jobs or the possible replacements. The Trump team, probably because they didn’t think they would win, did no prep work on a transition. Maybe Donald should just dump the bunch of dummies he has surrounded himself with and hire Hillary’s entire transition group, who are ready to step into the breach.

As stated above, Trump’s first appointments show a lot of ideology but not much forbearance. If his next appointments follow that line, this country will be in deep trouble. We already know the Right-wing is pushing many ideologies that will hurt a good portion of the populace of this country including many who voted for Trump. Trump may create some jobs, but he if he manages to create as many as Obama did it will be a small miracle. More probable is that he will destroy the healthcare blanket that the Democrats tried to draw over the people of the nation, a policy that would by now, have been much better and more inclusive if the GOP had tried to help fix its problems instead of trying to eliminate it. In this, Paul Ryan will be the biggest threat. Ryan is incontrovertibly in the pocket of big medicine and big insurance. Every program he has pushed is aimed at choking out the average guy and enriching the big medical businesses, which have him firmly buried in their pockets.

But his is the posture of the entire GOP and it is this posture that allowed Trump to win over the sixteen other establishment candidates that ran against him.

It is now the country’s only hope that he abandons the GOP establishment and their regressive policies and strikes out n his own. Right or wrong, it will, at least, give the nation a chance to survive rather than fall back in to the swamp that Bush/ Cheney tried to bury us in.

Trump’s seeming desire to build a White House staff without an iota of experience, led by his sons, Uday and Qusay and his daughter’s husband’s background in felonious real estate, is sheer foolishness. Experience counts. That’s why many of us were able to overlook Hillary’s insignificant problems and see that she was the most qualified candidate in our lifetimes to be president. Instead we elected an amateur, who seems determined to prove his professional political status by listening to no one but himself and appointing a staff that will lead this country into war and healthcare hell.

Then Friday night Vice President-elect Pence went to see “Hamilton”. He was greeted with boos upon entering the theatre and after the show Brandon Victor Dixon, who played Aaron Burr, stepped forward at the curtain call and made a respectful speech to Pence about this country and how it was his, Pence’s, responsibility to lead it in traditionally American ways. One would have thought that would be the end of that but Trump, once again proving that he hasn’t got what it takes to be President couldn’t resist Twittering his anger about the speech and attacking the actor who gave it. Yeah, Donald, that’s the Presidential way. Attack a citizen for exercising his right of free speech. This is not a good start unless you are practicing to be Idi Amin Dada, the Butcher of Uganda.
