The Trump base is made up of the most unmitigated optimists of all time. They elected a criminal and con man expecting him to actually do something for them. Now they are wading through his swamp full of horseshit expecting to find a pony.
Everyone who has seriously thought about it understands why Trump’s base voted for him. Most of them are hard working people who have been brought up to see the world a certain way and they find it changing for the worse. The jobs that were supposed to provide for them and their families have disappeared or at least shrunk. When they have been able to get new employment it pays half or less than the manufacturing or agricultural jobs they had.
Those who were brought up with certain values see them eroding and have been convinced by conservative or religious pundits that this is the fault of liberal philosophy.
And most important; the men in whom they put their faith, the men they elected to office, always on the promise of a better life and a greater America, have failed them miserably.
You can go all the way back to 1968 and Richard Nixon’s election to see the beginning of the failure of the Republican philosophy but Nixon didn’t really have any philosophy, he was just a crook. It actually started with the election of Ronald Reagan in 1980 because that’s where the infamous “Trickle down economics” got its start and the “Republican Philosophy” was born.
The base loved Reagan. He had been an actor who played all the right roles and now he was going to be the President who made all the right moves. Except the basic economic move was going to kill them and destroy the middle class. They would never see it coming and never understand how it happened.
George HW Bush was just Reagan 2.0 except that he bred one Bush too many. He helped fan the flames of “Trickle Down” until it was a full forest fire that only began to subside when Bill Clinton took over the Presidency and became the only modern President to leave the country debt and therefore interest free.
Unfortunately the attack on the American economy and the nation’s middle class was re-upped as soon as the elder Bush’s idiot son George took office and brought along the evil Dick Cheney to do the work of the Presidency. Between the lazy ignorant Bush and the evil criminal Cheney they drove us into two unnecessary wars and a depression
The nation had a brief respite during the eight years that Barak Obama spent in the White House after Bush but Obama’s ability to get anything substantial done to really elevate the ruptured economy, after he saved it and introduced universal healthcare, was killed off by the election of the fetid swarm of Tea Party losers in 2010.
So the cupboard was bare in 2016 when Trump stole an election he actually lost by over three million votes. The base had finally revolted and voted in a non-politician. Donald promptly showed us all why we had always elected professional politicians before.
Now after almost three years of incompetence and criminal activity the nation is on its knees but the Trump base, probably out of terror at what they have wrought, refuses to acknowledge their mistake and sticks by him no matter what kind of degenerate behavior he displays.
I grew up thinking that being a Senator was important and that we had to respect and listen to our Senators, but this week I listened while a dishonest string of GOP degenerates stood before cameras and outright lied to the American people about what their criminal President had done, this despite the fact that he had already admitted most of it on TV.
Why would he do such a thing? Who would be crazy enough to admit to a criminal act on TV? Trump would because he is so depraved that he doesn’t see them as criminal acts. To a slug like Trump this is just everyday behavior. He doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with extorting and blackmailing the President of one of our allies and endangering the defense of their country by withholding desperately needed military supplies.
But now the Trump germ has spread to members of hi administration and they find themselves lying and covering up for him in such an incompetent manner that they have put themselves in a direct line of fire that will mow them down before they can get out of their jobs.
I’m speaking here about Attorney general Bill Barr and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who have definitely drunk the Kool Aide.
Barr is off to Italy looking for those non-extant emails that the GOP claimed existed on Hillary Clinton’s server. With all the madness and criminal behavior existing in today’s world that’s what Bill Barr thinks is important. Hillary’s been away from government so long that even the Trump base has forgotten why they hated her so much. I guess Barr expects to find those emails in the Sistine Chapel or maybe the catacombs. Maybe someone should take him to see the Piazza Navona just so it isn’t a completely wasted trip. With all the crimes to solve in the White House you would think Barr had more to take care of here.
Maybe Pompeo is the one who should have gone overseas. He stayed in Washington and now he’s stuck trying to lie his way out of having been involved in Trump’s impeachment conversation with Zelensky.
One thing the honest people in the country can be thankful for is that Moscow Mitch seems to have seen the handwriting on the wall and appears to be sneakily abandoning Trump. Let’s hope he’s too late in his realization and he get’s trounced in Kentucky in 2020.
And now the GOP has learned a new word, “coup.” It has become Peter King’s favorite word. Unfortunately neither King nor any of his compatriots are intelligent enough to have learned the correct definition of the word. A coup d’état is theillegal, usually military removal of a President for political reasons. An impeachment, on the other hand, is thelegal removal of a President for violations of his oath of office or the constitution.
Unfortunately there is no legal statute for removal of a President for simply not being a human being. The need for this was illustrated yesterday when a leak from the ever porous White House informed the American public about a meeting on border immigration in which Donald Trump suggested building a moat along the Texas border and filling it with alligators and snakes. When told that this was not legal he went on to suggest that we just shoot those trying to cross and when told that this was not legal either he negotiated down to just shooting them in the legs. This is your President. Aren’t you all proud?
Also yesterday, Mike Pompeo finally admitted that he had been on the call between Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky, thereby admitting that like most of the Trump administration he is an unmitigated liar. But like all liars, Pompeo couldn’t just fess up and leave it there. He had to lay out a whole line of bullshit about how he had been protecting the other countries that we exchange secrets with from having their information revealed. Yeah? How does he protect anything when “open mouth, insert foot” Trump finds out about it?
Then Pompeo did a number on how he was also trying to protect the five State Department employees that he still had left, after Trump ravaged that formerly enormous department.
It goes on and on because of what appears to be a genetic defect, in the Retrumplican gene pool. Anytime any of them opens his or her mouth, they dig the hole into which Trump is sliding deeper.

George Stephanopoulos is a weak, whiny little twit who had a hissy fit over Bill Clinton lying to him about a blowjob and then instead of calling Clinton on it, quit in a huff and used his association with Clinton g to get his job in broadcasting at ABC. He proved his inability to do his job on Sunday when he interviewed Rudy Giuliani, a senile, near mental patient who Chris Cuomo took apart and hung on hooks all over his studio earlier in the week. George allowed Rudy to bully him and push him around on his own show.
Then, after the raving, howling Giuliani, George interviewed a calm, reasonable and logical Adam Schiff who explained exactly what was going on with the impeachment plan and what his roll in it was. Whereas Giuliani had wrongly accused Schiff of being a judge in the congressional hearings, Schiff explained that his roll was more that of a prosecutor, seeking to uncover the facts of the case and that it would be the Senate who would judge Trump at the end of the House investigation. Of course Rudy knows this but he just can’t wrap what’s left of his mind around it.
The same is true of Steve Scalise, the number two Republican in the House, who made a lot of lying statements about Biden on Meet the Press, but unlike Stephy, Chuck Todd called him on it and all but called him a liar.
Mike McFaul, former US Ambassador to Russia was on later with Todd and he explained one very important aspect as of this case. All of the Trump apologists have tried to make Trump’s, “Do me a favor,” line seem like an innocent ask. But McFaul states unequivocally that there are no “favors” in international dealings. There is always a quid pro quo. Trump was offering a trade and what he was trading was the $400 million in aid for Zelensky’s help in finding dirt on Biden.
Then I watched Trump apologist Kevin McCarthy being interviewed on 60 Minutes. He was the perfect example of a madman babbling nonsensically on a subject about which he knew nothing. He kept saying that there was no impeachment process going on when just about everyone else in the world recognizes that one exists and that it has Trump by the short hairs. He refused to acknowledge that the transcript of Trump on the phone with Zelensky is, in fact, a thing. Then, when trapped in a corner with no defense but his own lies, he told Scott Pelly that he hasn’t read the complaint or the transcripts of anything. Really?
So what does that statement tell you about Kevin McCarthy? It tells me that he is either so monumentally stupid that he’d go on a TV show to argue a point with which he is completely ignorant or he is the worlds second biggest liar, trying to protect the world’s first biggest liar.
And so it is with the horde of other Trump apologists. It makes one wonder. The White House, not the Democrats, released the transcript of the conversation between Trump and Zelensky. The administration is admitting what they did and then asking us not to believe them. It doesn’t even take explanation by the Dems. All it takes is recognition of what the President did and said, information that he and his aides are ignorant enough to provide.
When McCarthy refuses to accept the fact that the President did anything wrong it means either that he has abandoned honesty completely or he agrees with Trump and thinks that bribery and extortion are not crimes.
