Bits & Pieces #136

Over Trump’s tenure of infecting the White House, this blog has made a big deal about the President’s penchant for lying. I have repeatedly called him the “Fat Liar in the Oval Office” and referred to his constant failure to tell the truth in various ways. Many thought that I was going too far but I have simply pointed out the numbers. In about three and a half years in office Trump has lied to the American people more than 18,000 times. Seems impossible doesn’t it? But according to Politifact, FactCheck.org, Snopes and the Washington Post, the four best fact-check organizations currently functioning, that number is accurate. And now, the Washington Post is about to publish a book encompassing all his lies… A BOOK!

This should come as no surprise since Trump’s first public statement after his inauguration ws a lie. Yes, his first statement, in which he bragged about having attracted the largest audience for an inaugural in American history. Unfortunately someone had invented the camera and there were pictures that showed he was at least 50% off.

Okay, so it wasn’t a big deal. Who really cares that Trump has a small dick and needs all the ego boosting he can get. Sure it was a lie about an insignificant matter and because of that a lot of people will brush it off, but if

Trump can lie so easily about something so truly insignificant how easily will he lie when it really matters? Well, he has shown us how easily 18,000 times over the last 3 ½ years.

But it isn’t just the fact that he lies, or what he has lied about. It’s the ramifications of being constantly revealed to have lied about almost everything he has spoken about. That problem has eroded any trust that anything he says could possibly be true. So with no confidence that anything the President says will be true how do we confidently move forward on any subject on which he has an opinion or has made a statement.

And that is exactly where the nation is now, frozen in place, unable to produce anything from legislation to masks. Nothing that Trump says means anything to anyone. He is simply an unreliable clown, vomiting out nonsense, even while we are in the middle of a horrific pandemic that demands leadership in order to cope with it.

From the beginning of Trumps term, the wisest, the most insightful of our pundits have worried about what this failed man would do when faced with a real crisis. The crisis is here and the answer demonstrably, is nothing.

*******

Since the emergence of the coronavirus Dimwit Donald and his non-functional sycophants have been trying to show the American people that they have nothing to worry about by doing the most ignorant things imaginable like appearing in public without masks or behaving in other ways that shun the advice issued by doctors. Trump has made no secret of the fact that he ignores scientific advice mainly because he’s too stupid to understand it, but what he does understand is taking praise for the work of others and how to shove his fat ass into someone else’s photo op.

He believes that wearing a mask does nothing but obscure his devastatingly handsome features. That with a face only a mother could love.

The other day his aides found a factory in PA, which manufactured the material needed to make PPE’s. The workers at the factory had left their homes and families in order to isolate themselves from the virus and were living at the factory and working around the clock to supply the necessary material to protect our medical and service workers.

Trump hears about this and decides this is a great photo op, a perfect chance for them to steal some of the appreciation due those workers. So they call the factory and announce that his imperial fatness will be here to congratulate the workers on thus and such a day.  Just as the call is being made, the seemingly magically immune Trump caravan begins to spring leaks as two of the inner circle have tested positive. Panic is roving the halls of the West Wing and the factory workers hearing abut the contagion, decide that they want no part of Trump coming into their factory and spreading the virus to the so far safe workers.

The only thing missing from this story is the part where Trump starts Tweeting nasty missives to the workers and accusing them of being pussies for not allowing him to contaminate the whole plant.

Trump’s current attempt to help his criminal associate, Michael Flynn, is nothing but a car crash in which all drivers are forced on by Trumpian wishes and little else. At no time was Barr’s ill-conceived action based on any altered facts. It’s just all about what he Fat Liar in the Oval Office wants.

And like everything else the Trump administration does, this one is crashing on the reefs of intelligent thought.  No one asked Trump if Barr had the tools to pull this one off. We already knew he would just blindly do what his master wanted but was the law there to back him up? Apparently not, In fact they have now put Flynn in a position to get hit with a new of count of perjury.

Trump’s problem in this and everything else is that he never thinks. Maybe it’s just that he doesn’t have the ability to think, but he never does. He just decides what he wants and goes for it. Barr is a reasonably smart guy. Not a genius but certainly nowhere near as dumb as Trump; still it would seem he is way out of his depth on this one.

So Trump sees that he may go into the toilet on this one and he goes on the attack. Not that it makes any difference who he attacks. He never cares about that just so long as it takes attention away from whatever blunder he’s trying to slide out from under. This time it’s Obama and the Obamagate nonsense. But what exactly is Obamagate? It seems to be some vague Trumpian crap about Obama trying to destroy the Trump administration before it gets underway by starting an investigation into it’s dealings with Russia. That led to Flynn and Barr’s latest curfuffel.

Now Trump seems to be expanding the scope to further accuse the Obama administration of not adequately preparing the incoming Trump administration to handle the work that might be demanded of it a    s it pursues its job of running the country. But that’s all pure bullshit. Don’t believe me. Just read The Fifth Risk, Michael Lewis’s insider look at how incompetently the Trump administration went about taking over our government.

Don’t even believe Lewis.  Check out the degenerate Moscow Mitch McConnell who has been forced to rescind his lying accusation on this subject because the Obama people had so much proof that Mitch had to admit he was wrong to accuse Obama. The preparation was there but Trump’s people had either ignored it or were too stupid to understand it. And then, of course, John Bolton shut down the Pandemic office.

Then in an interesting interview between Trump and Phil Rucker, the reporter asked Trump what specific crime was the basis of the Obamagate accusations? “You know what the crime is.” Trump replied. Obviously Trump doesn’t, so he needs all the help he can get. This is called Trump truth. He doesn’t need a crime, he doesn’t really care if there’s a crime or not. It’s just a repeat of Trump’s first public outcry, his denial of Obama’s American birth. He had no reason to make that accusation.  He made it because if served his purposes and for no other reason. The fact that it was revealed to be completely false didn’t matter at all.  He had gotten to say the words and that’s all that mattered to Trump. He didn’t give a rat’s ass if they were true or false.

Then there’s Blake Snell, the incredibly stupid professional baseball player who felt obliged to go on the tube and announce that he wouldn’t play even a half season this year if he didn’t get his whole season salary. And just so all you people out there understand what kind of money we’re talking about, Blake Snell is scheduled to make $7 million bucks this year. That comes out to be $3.5 million for half a season. That’s 3 months work. How does that make you guys who are making $7.50 an hour and taking more chances than he ever will, feel?  So this moron won’t take about $3.5 million to play a child’s game for 3 months… and he’s bragging about it.

Just listening to this guy shoot off his mouth, you know he’s out in a bar every chance he can get with no mask and no distancing and he say’s he’s worried about getting the virus playing ball.

So let’s talk about why it matters if anyone plays this season. Right now this country is filled with people who are putting their lives on the line every day, doing their part to keep this country going. I’m speaking about doctors, nurses, EMTs, firemen, cops, transit workers, store clerks, deliverymen and many others that are taking a chance on getting sick so they can do their jobs, take care of their families and make the cities work; all or at least the vast majority of them working for a hell of a lot less then this dumb asshole. It would mean a hell of a lot to many of them and to the rest of us who are sports fans to get a little entertainment and a bit of separation from the ugly reality of the world into which this administration has allowed us to slip.

Lest we forget, it’s the sport not the players that make the game. I have no factual knowledge of this but I would bet serious money that there are more spectators at Little League games across the country on any given weekend then there are at professional baseball stadiums. The professionals who understand the small fact, that it’s the game, are the ones who will conduct themselves in such a manner as to be remembered after they have left the sport. The ones like Mr. Snell will be forgotten long before management cuts them.

In a move that was all but unprecedented, The Lancet, the revered medical journal first published in 1823, has stated in an editorial that the only solution to the Covid-29 crisis lies in re-placing the Trump administration with a Democratic one in the 2020.  It’s not that The Lancet has never tackled political subject matter in the past. In fact it has entered into political territory over 4500 times in its almost 200 years of publishing. What it hasn’t done is actually take a stand on any election.  This is actually a medical statement using the political sphere.  It says; we can’t solve our medical crisis because the party in power doesn’t know how to do it.

It referred to President Trump’s “inconsistent and incoherent response,” to the pandemic and said that ”Americans must put a president in the White House come January 2021 who will understand that public health should not be guided by partisan politics.”

It also accused Trump of undermining the CDC and creating an intelligence vacuum with China when he pulled the last CDC officers from that country in July of 2019. Even Trump backers have to think twice about this one.

“If we didn’t do any testing, we’d have very few cases.”

That’s the quote that even as I write this is creating massive controversy between those who are accusing Trump of being nothing but a blundering idiot and those who think he may have an occasional lucid thought.

The quote is in English, a language with which Trump is understood to have a passing familiarity. I maintain that what Trump is saying in this quote is that testing is actually causing the new cases of the virus and that in making such an absurd statement, he is proving what a moron he really is. Others, like my wife, maintain that if we do more testing we will get higher numbers and he doesn’t like high numbers so he doesn’t want testing. I think they are giving him way too much credit for even marginal intelligence.
