We have gone down the road with Obama but it seems that he just doesn’t see the reality of our situation. His stubborn clinging to the concept that he can have a reasonable debate with the thugs on the Right is just not reality. Both the President and the Democrats in congress need a rather large gut check. The President has to be made to understand that there is no negotiating with a bully and that is exactly what happened when he let the Tea Party goons push him into a corner over the debt ceiling.
It’s great to want to negotiate but it always takes two and right now the Right has seen that they can get everything they want by just saying no. The President has to realize that he can’t negotiate with people whose only aim is to destroy him, and the rest of the nation be damned.
I know what you’re thinking. I saw him the other night too, but standing on a podium and demanding that congress,” pass this bill,” is a whole hell of a lot easier than badgering them into actually doing it. The President’s badgering score has been pretty low so far.
As far as the rest of the Democrats go, the only ones who appear to have any balls at all are three women. Hilary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren and Maxine Waters. I’d go into a bar fight with any of them, anytime.
Of course, the problem is that right now Obama has to do something to get back into the race that will be heating up in the next couple of months. Sure, he’s banking on the fact that the Republican candidates are nothing but pond scum but that’s just what the Republican’s were saying about him four years ago.
I did a column about Bachmann & Perry last week but (How could I do this) I forgot Ron Paul. Just for the sake of not arguing about an un-provable point I’ll grant that God created everything. But when they start talking about Him talking to them and giving them the answers to the quiz, that’s it! If you believe that the Bible is the only book you ever have to read, you will vote for Bachmann, Paul, Perry or Rick Santorum. Of course, you’ll have to decide which of the Bibles you want to believe because they all have different stuff to say and the candidates have yet to decide which one they want to believe.
Now, if you believe the Road to Serfdom is the only book you’ll ever have to read you’ll for sure be voting for Ron Paul. You ever notice how one book seems to be the limit for Republican readers?
This weekend’s gem from good ole’ Ron is that government should have no role at all in hurricane relief. Does that mean we should wait for God to fix everything, Ron? Do you really think any of us will live that long? Bachmann does. She also believes that government has no role in any disaster relief. She has discovered this through personal communication with The Deity. He actually told her that all these disasters we’ve been having is His way of punishing us for all the bad things we’ve been doing.
She thinks these bad things are abortion, gay marriages and Obamacare, I think the bad things are two unjust wars, the torture of innocents and letting her off the funny farm without checking the test results.
Michele knows that she will be able to prove her point when God comes down, puts all the true believers in a space ship and zaps the rest of us. Of course, he’s missed several deadlines to date; ask Glenn Beck about that, but who knows, maybe the next one will be the big one and then Michele can say, “I told you so.” Until that happens, we’d all be better off if someone just put her back inside.
Course the fact that all these Republican candidates are nuts or true believers doesn’t change the fact that the Prez has to grow a pair if he’s actually going to conquer. He gave us a hint by pulling the trigger on Bin Laden but we need to see more of that attitude when he aims at the likes of Boehner, Ryan, Kyl, Cantor, Sessions and the rest of that scurvy crew.
Despite the Right’s contention that Obama has done nothing in his time in the White House, he has a pretty enviable record in everything except debating the Republicans.
His use of the Stimulus to save GM & Chrysler saved over a million jobs. It also kept people on unemployment from starving while they waited for non-existent jobs. It even helped make up for the deficiencies caused by the Bush tax cuts to the rich.
He passed the regulatory bills necessary to put the Thieves of Wall Street back in check after Bush ‘s deregulation of the post Great Depression regulations put in place to protect us from exactly what happened. Maybe if we can keep a Republican from getting his hands on those laws again we can keep from having a third depression.
He passed a general healthcare bill, the first in history, based on many bills previously set up by Republicans but until now never passed by anyone. Despite the fact that his bill, admittedly flawed, is based on many Republican attempts, today’s Teabag prompted clowns have done everything but burn down local hospitals in protest. Of course the real reason for the opposition is that they are dedicated to getting Obama out of office, not to helping the American people with their health problems.
Add to this, the drawing down of the Bush/Cheney war in Iraq and trying to get out of the stupidly attacked Afghanistan and you have more accomplishments in three years than Bush/Cheney came close to in eight.
Yes, more needs to be done for unemployment and to give him his due, he’s trying but he’s getting no help from his own cowardly Democratic congressmen and less from a bunch of Republicans and Teabaggers who care only for yacht owners and members of restricted clubs.
