It’s been 208 years since our Capital building in Washington DC has been breeched. In 1812 it was a foreign enemy. This Wednesday January 6th 2021 it was a different kind of enemy. This time it was a seditious mob instructed, led and cheered on by our treasonous President, Donald Trump. Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump Jr., Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley assisted him in this dastardly action.
Right now, down in Georgia there are two men, Brad Raffensperger and Gabriel Sterling who justly deserve their, as yet unoffered, profiles in courage. Both men are Republicans who tried and are still trying to suppress the vote but did stand up to Trump, denying the wishes and threats of the most powerful man in the world, the criminal President.
Ted Cruz, Ron Johnson, James Lankford, Steve Daines, John Kennedy, Marcia Blackburn, Mike Braun, Josh Hawley, Tommy Tuberville, Cynthia Lummis, Roger Marshall, Bill Hagerty and Paul Ryan, have assisted in this attack on democracy and now they must all face the consequences, and consequences there will be because in less than 2 weeks we will have a whole new government, a government that understands the law, the concept of justice and the need for punishment.
It’s difficult to conceive a more anti-democratic and anti-conservative act than a federal intervention to overturn the results of state-certified elections that would disenfranchise millions of Americans.
This week, as his lackeys attempted to disrupt the congressional accounting of the electoral votes, Donald Trump, abandoned to his insanity by both Mike Pence and Mitch McConnell, along with a large group of Republican congressmen, led the coup strategy, ordering his followers to storm the capital.
Those followers began milling about the Capital building in what at first appeared to be a peaceful protest.
Watching the TV coverage and listening to the commentary presented two very different stories of what was going on. The early pictures showed a pretty calm crowd, surrounding the capital building but not actually doing any damage. Then the few Capital police standing before the doors seemed to suddenly retreat giving the crowd open access to the building. The commentators spoke of broken windows and doors and demonstrators in the Senate screaming about the election having been stolen from Trump. There appears to be zero police presence but reporters tell us that they were there.
This demonstration was not a surprise. Why didn’t Trump have Homeland security or the National Guard standing by? He surely had the Proud Boys and the Bugaloo Bums standing by. This is the most urgent call for Trump to be impeached yet. Sure there are only about 14 days left in his catastrophic administration but it would keep him from ever holding any office in the US again. I mean this is the asshole that all kinds of Republicans are trying to keep in office even as he paces the halls of the White House like a mad king, plotting revenge on all those that he imagines have thwarted him.
The idea that the Senate went back back to debating about whether or not there should be any more contention about the outcome of the elections was ludicrous. After this how could anyone of sane mind still try to extend the Presidency of the insane egomaniac that called for a riot at the Capital?
Josh Hawley and his Dirty Dozen should be indicted.
Any of those who illegally entered the capital should have been arrested but few were. Another question; where were all the members of the administration who should have been out leading those trying to stop and disperse the protestors? Of curse there was a riot, there was no government leadership. Trump, hidden in the White House, claimed he was going to lead the punks, the Defense Secretary did not answer his phone as Maryland Governor Hogan tried to get permission to move the National Guard troops he had organized at the request of Senator Steny Hoyer, so who was in charge?
There are a hundred questions attached to this attempted coup and they all lead to one inevitable conclusion. This was no mistake. With Trump banging the drum for this demonstration, with thousands of protestors converging on the Capital, most of the Capital police seemingly given the day off, with no National Guard standing by as they should have been for this volatile situation, with almost no security planning in anticipation of this burgeoning disaster, there is only one inevitable conclusion. Trump wanted this to happen and he was assisted by his coterie of sedition minded ass kissers in carrying it out.
Watching as Giuliani and Don Jr. egged on a bunch of beer guzzling, mindless fools only adds to this conclusion. This was set up by Trump and as in all Trumpian operations, it was ill planned, executed badly and not thought out to a functional conclusion. He couldn’t successfully run the country, who would expect him to be able to pull off a coup?
It’s probably a safe bet that Trump doesn’t know that sedition is a capital crime but ignorance of the law is no excuse.
Congressman Ruben Gallego, (D) Arizona, considering the nonsense that was going on with the objections to the electors count stated; “The names of Cruz and Hawley should go down in American history next to that of Benedict Arnold.” And for those who don’t immediately recognize the subject of the quote, he was a traitor.
After the building was cleared, Congress went back into the Capital and certified the electoral count. I think they should have been equally determined to censure those Senators who were backing Trump’s lying attempt at a coup. Those fools must be made to understand that they were trying to extend the rule of a seditious traitor who has tried for four years to destroy our democracy. Anyone who supports him must also be indicted as a traitor.
Josh Hawley one of the perpetrators of the nation’s violence was expected to pull back on his objections to the congressional approval of the election results but like the terminal asshole he is, Hawley pushed ahead with his objection. Bizarrely Hawley’s objection was based on a change in the electoral laws in Pennsylvania that allowed for mail-in ballots. Now he may not like mail-ins but he should know that the President he is trying to protect actually votes by mail-in.
Mail-in voting did not give anyone who was not entitled to vote access to the ballot box. Nothing in the new law said that Republicans couldn’t vote or that Democrat’s votes counted twice. It didn’t cause any unfair or “rigged” results. All it did was make voting easier for those, who for whatever reason, had trouble getting to a polling place. So the objection is just as trivial and idiotic as is Josh Hawley, the perfect example of a modern moron.
There has been a lot of talk about impeachment or action using the 25th Amendment. Does Pence have the stones to actually bring this before the cabinet? Are there enough votes among Trump’s lame appointees to vote him out? I say no to both. I also say there isn’t enough time to pull off an impeachment but I do think a deal can be made whereby Trump can resign and go to Mar-a-Largo while Pence pardons him and his brats. This will get him out of the White House while still leaving him open to prosecution in the states. Legally he could run again but I don’t think he will, considering the taste he has left in the country’s mouth with his latest folly and the fact that state prosecutors all over the country will be hounding him for his litany of criminal acts. Trump can be impeached after he leaves office. That would result not only in his not being able to run for office again, but also in losing his $200K per year lifetime pension, the $1M yearly travel allowance and his lifetime Secret Service protection.
