What America Needs

Sorry that this blog is late. I had a piece prepared to publish on Wednesday but as I started watching the inauguration I realized that something entirely different was needed.

The piece I had written was about those who had voted for Trump, both times and as those of you who are regular readers understand, I was not charitable. But I started watching Joe and Kamala and all the people who were exhausted by four years of being lied to and cheated out of a real president and I realized that something else was indicated. Something new was happening and it called for a different attitude. It came over me when even I, the grumpy old man with the surly attitude, began to really enjoy the proceedings. I began to smile and choke up when Lady Gaga sang the National Anthem and along with the entire nation I was enthralled by Amanda Gordon’s words and presence.

All of a sudden I realized that there is indeed hope. With the Biden and Harris leadership the nation might indeed survive and prosper.

The fact is, Biden understands what’s wrong and what he must to do to fix it. He also understands it won’t be easy, there still is, and will forever be, those in government who do not see the triumph of the nation as their first and most important goal. They will fight for their own petty, greedy goals to the end but hopefully their ends will arrive soon.

To me it has always been crystal clear that if Biden is successful at what he looks to achieve he will be able to create an America that supplies a full, rich existence for all Americans as well as a goal for those around the world who wish to come here and enrich our lives as well as their own.

Joe’s first day at work showed us where he is going and invited us all to come along for the ride. It also, hopefully, taught us a good lesson. With the stroke of a pen, he eliminated much of the harm that Donald Trump had caused through Presidential decree, just as Trump had voided much of the good that Barak Obama had tried to achieve the same way. The lesson is clear. Only short term good can be achieved by a president without the cooperation and legislation that must come from congress. That is the way of the Constitution and it clearly shows that congressional support is the only way to achieve permanent success.

That’s why it is so important for Biden to be able to work with both the progressive Democrats and the Republicans in the House and Senate. This country desperately needs certain legislation to be passed for the good of all our people and only with serious cooperation in congress will that happen.  For too long, congress has acted like a pack of mongrel dogs fighting over scraps and achieving nothing. The American people desperately need congress to function; not just on the 50-50 stuff, but on the 60-40 stuff as well. In order for that to happen we need the intelligent members of congress to guide their intellectually challenged colleagues. We also need the leaders of the opposition to control such men as Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, Jim Jordan, Kevin McCarthy, Rand Paul and other’s like them, men and women who have shown they are willing to abandon truth and honor to achieve spurious goals.

Joe Biden has stated his goals clearly. They are goals to which any honest, logical, thinking man should aspire. They are goals that if achieved will snatch America out of the morass of lies and dishonesty that have identified the Trump administration and raise it once more to Ronald Reagan’s exalted place on a hill.

This is a nation that needs to set its goals higher. For four years we have set the bar far too low. Finally, we have the right man in the White House. Let’s all get behind him and get the job done.
