Bits & Pieces #150

For almost a year now, the United States has been racked by a disease that has spread through our ranks and killed over four hundred thousand Americans. To our disgrace we allowed ourselves to be led by a President who tried to ignore the pandemic even as he lied about it and did absolutely nothing to abate it.

Even worse, if that’s possible, is that he didn’t even acknowledge the tragedy of all those who have succumbed to it. It took a man who was not yet president to have the intelligence, the empathy and the humanity to honor the dead. The refusal to recognize the toll of his do-noting presidency was the final statement of the outgoing seditionist who, for the last four awful years, has been the worst president in United States history. With Trump’s departure, we can all look forward with hope and great expectations to the next eight years.

I am looking at some pictures of rioters trying to scale a wall that leads to the balcony of the Capitol. None of them are succeeding. Many fell off the wall. This despite the fact that there is a stairwell fifty feet away that would have allowed easy access to their goal.

Does anyone need to see anything else to realize that this group may indeed be the dumbest people in the United States? It’s truly a miracle that they were able to find their way to DC from wherever they started.

So Joe Biden speaks of reconciliation and cooperation but in order to make that happen, he is going to need some kind of cooperation from the GOP.  Instead the first thing that happened on Thursday was for one asshole to try to bring a gun onto the House floor and another, Kevin McCarthy, to go on record as attacking Biden’s new immigration policy by stating that Biden was more interested in helping immigrants than helping our own citizens.

McCarthy makes that statement from ignorance, not understanding that one can help both and thereby proving that he has no knowledge of the fact that we need immigrant labor to push our economy or that we are all immigrants and only the dumb ones don’t understand that.

Then as if he feels he must solidify the proof of his ignorance, McCarthy goes after the Biden shut down of the Keystone Pipeline while taking a shot at climate activists, once again proving he cares nothing for the safety of the planet.

But that isn’t enough for old Kevin; he finishes by going after Biden’s plan to rejoin the WHO, which Trump abandoned. Again, not understanding that if there were ever a time when we needed a World Health Organization it is right now in the midst of a worldwide pandemic.

The question becomes, can Biden bring us all together when know nothing clowns like McCarthy, Cruz, Hawley, Jordon and Paul are allowed to wander among us and continue to vomit out their Trump approved drivel of lies and deception? It’s time for the intelligent, honest Republican’s, if there are any left, to take their party back from the Trump bred degenerate criminals among them.

Willie Geist made an important observation this week when speaking about congress. He pointed out that whereas we want the nation to come together and act with unity, such is not the job of congress. Their job is to write, debate and pass legislation, the kind of legislation that helps the country move forward; the kind that raises the people up and helps them achieve their life goals, the kind that makes prosperity easier and provides a foundation for success. We haven’t seen that in over a decade. It’s time for a renewal.

What was not said in Geist’s statement was that in order for congress to do their job, they must abandon a lot of their party attitudes and think with their heads, not their party cards. That is not an easy job when many of them are depending on their party allegiance for their livelihood but it must be done or we will achieve nothing.

On Tuesday January 26th the NY Post ran a headline “Clueless” in which they attacked Joe Biden for not knowing the exact number of vaccine doses that the feds possessed. At that point Biden had been in office for five days. Nowhere in the article did the Post mention that their hero, Donald Trump, was in office for over a year without knowing anything about the pandemic except what he made up in his cluttered mind. I really think it’s time we drove Rupert Murdoch back to Australia.

So the Democrats proposed a $1.9 trillion COVID bill and 10 GOP Senators came back with a $600 million bill.  Sure they’re very far apart and it looks like the GOP offer is a false flag but Biden would love to get those 10 Senators to be part of the process.  There is no doubt about what the American people want. They have polled at around 86% for the $1.9 trillion. They couldn’t give a rat’s ass about partisanship. They want the money! It would be a good thing if there could be cooperation between the parties in this kind of vote, but it’s not essential.  It’s probably worth a couple of days of negotiations to see if the bill can be passed on a bi-partisan vote but if the choice is between bi-partisan, resulting in a weak bill, or a strong bill, the Democrats must go with a strong bill. The GOP has to be willing to go a lot bigger because the Democrats must pass a bill with broad coverage. Sure there’s room for negotiation. Sure there are a few places where the Democrats can back off.  Maybe the $15 minimum wage can either be adjusted or put off until later. Maybe some of the other stuff that is not directly related to the pandemic aide can too, but the GOP will have to come way up for the Democrats to make any changes and that just doesn’t look promising.

Don’t forget, the people, by a huge majority, want the big bill. It will be financed by their tax dollars so the name of the game has to be, go big or go home.

James Cordon has a great idea that follows Trump’s lawyer’s logic. Next time Cordon gets stopped for speeding, he’s going to tell the cop that, yes he was speeding, but that since he is no longer speeding, it would be unconstitutional to give him a ticket now.
