There have been a lot of dumb politicians in the history of our Senate, but this year we really have a shot at electing the new champ.
That’s right! In Georgia, even as I scribble this blog, Hershel Walker is about to establish a new low in political literacy. Or is it illiteracy?
This is a guy born and raised in the United States, a guy whose extraordinary athletic talent enabled him to achieve the goal of getting into a major college and yet who never bothered to learn to speak the English language, and who has never learned to distinguish between truth and lies. With all the opportunities available to him, this dumb clown has decided that the job he is best suited for is “politician.” It just never occurred to him that the job entailed a certain amount of communication, an area, in which he is almost completely without skill. I mean this is a lout for whom a simple conversation is an exercise in futility and yet he wants to be a United States Senator. I guess he looked around, saw moronic bumblefucks like Marjorie Taylor Green, Matt Gaetz, Lindsay Graham, Ted Cruz, and Ron Johnson and figured any simpleton could do it. He can’t, and if there are enough dumb voters in Georgia, he will get a chance to prove just how wrong he is.

I watched an interview the other day in which a licensed plumber admitted that he made over $150,000 last year. In fact, he made over $250,000 but who’s counting? This is a guy who was smart enough, or lucky enough to skip community college or a wasted year at State U and learn how to do something with his life. Not just anything, but something interesting and something that pays very well because over $150,000 in most parts of the country puts him in the upper quarter of wage earners. And the job is interesting. He is making decisions and acting on them, not just stamping boxes or some other boring job. His decisions lead to the creation of a functional entity; a toilet that flushes, a sink that delivers water. It all helps to give his life meaning and make his work enjoyable. And like I said it pays really, really well.
I have done a lot of different things to earn a buck in my long life. I’ve been a stage manager, a designer in many areas from jewelry to buildings, to movie sets and special effects, I’ve produced and directed in film, TV and theatre. I’ve been a writer, run a coffee house, owned a restaurant, worked in bookstores and bars and raced cars and I’ve enjoyed every one of them but none, any more than being a carpenter. There’s something about taking a piece of raw wood in your hands and fashioning it into something it wasn’t before. I’m not facile enough with the language to make it poetic but I can surely say I got as much satisfaction out of building our dining room table as anything else I have ever done.
My point in saying all this is that our country right now is desperate for skilled labor to do the work that must be done to keep our society functioning. My son in south Florida is paying $50 an hour for semi-skilled grunt labor and he can’t find bodies to fill the jobs.
Our internment centers along the southern border are filled with men and women who possess the skills necessary to fill these good paying jobs and yet our backward immigration policies are keeping them behind bars instead of holding tools.
But we wouldn’t need them if our education system equipped our kids with the proper information and motivation. The bottom line is, not every kid is equipped to be a Rhodes Scholar and not every kid wants to be one. Not every kid in every class will need to know geometry, trig and solid. In fact, the only classes that every kid in every school should be required to take are English and Civics, and most schools no longer teach Civics.
WE ARE NOT DOING THE RIGHT THING BY OUR KIDS!
We are educating them for some pre-supposed life that isn’t real. What we should be doing. What we must be doing, is prepare them to earn the best possible living in their future life and to do that we have to equip some of them to be plumbers. We need the plumbers, and they need those serious paychecks. Instead, we have wasted their learning time on idiocy like Latin. I don’t know if they still teach Latin in Catholic high schools but in my time, we threw away 5 hours every week on learning a language that no one spoke and almost no one wrote.
The nuns tried desperately to convince us that Latin was important because it was the basis for all Romance languages. No one bought this We all understood what a monumental waste of time learning Latin really was. Your average plumber will never need to know one word of Latin in his life. I have a master’s degree and I have never needed to know any Latin. We are talking about 200 hours a year that we just threw away when we could have been teaching these kids to cut a pipe, wire a circuit or fit a table leg.
It’s time to stop the waste. It’s time to set up trade schools like the ones that existed when I was a kid but were eliminated because there was a stigma associated with going to trade schools. I can guarantee that there’s no damn stigma attached to making $250,000 a year in a country where the average salary is under $40,000. Let’s use part of that education money the Democrats just beat out of the Treasury to set up trade schools instead of paying back student loans, most of which were wasted anyway.

I find it hard to remember statistics. That’s why I haven’t been able to wrap my head around the exact number of idiots who are running for office but still refuse to concede that Biden beat Trump in the last election, but I do know it’s over a couple of hundred. The idea that we can ignore the reality of election results and continue on the path of rigged election belief is completely non-sensical to me. I mean, you’re telling the voters that the elections are rigged so why bother to vote? But at the same time, you’re begging them to vote for you even as you’re saying their vote means nothing because the fix is in. With a story like that you either think the voters are morons, or you are a moron.
Why get up off your ass, leave your beer to get flat with the rest of your breakfast and take the pickup all the way into town when the election’s already been decided? It’s dumb. Just stay home and let them fight it out in court.
