Bits & Pieces #149

I’ve always been fascinated by the way everything that goes around comes around. The recording this week of Donald Trump attacking and threatening honest fellow Republicans as he is about to leave the White House made me think of an earlier recording of Trump bragging about how he could grab women by their private parts just because he had power. That disgusting recording introduced this degenerate bully to the American people but they didn’t seem to care, just as he doesn’t care. Why should he? No one has taken him to task, not in any way that affected his life or even what he was trying to accomplish at any given moment.

That’s why the American people and not Joe Biden have to take Donald Trump to the woodshed. Biden has much more important things to do than to waste his valuable time on a criminal punk who really does belong behind bars. That should fall to others in the state or federal criminal justice system, but it must be done. Allowing this unrepentant, unashamed criminal sociopath to go unpunished for his crimes against Americans and the world is too much of an affront to the concept of justice to be allowed.

Josh Hawley, the newly elected Senator from Missouri simply couldn’t wait to display his ignorance in the halls of congress so he jumped in the other day and blurted out the statement that 74 million Americans are not going to be told their voices don’t matter. It’s hard to believe that a grown man who actually got elected to congress still doesn’t understand the electoral process.

It’s not that they don’t matter, Mr. Hawley, it’s that the numbers weren’t enough. If it had been 84 million they would actually have elected the president and then their voices would have mattered plenty. Could it be that Hawley doesn’t understand that? With all his fancy education is t possible that the concept of the most votes winning escapes him? It’s hard to believe that Hawley speaks for the majority of those 74 million people because it’s hard to believe that they are all spoiled, stupid, nasty brats like Hawley, and aren’t mature enough to take a loss like adults. It’s obvious that Hawley and the rest of the Defeated Dozen are members of the generation that always won a prize at camp, even when they lost. It’s a philosophy that leads to the inability to understand the difference between really winning and losing. It breeds the kind of power mad loser epitomized by Donald Trump, a man who got off on thinking he was actually firing the actors who were being paid to be fired on his dumb show.

It’s truly amazing how many idiots actually believed the character that Trump played on that show. They voted for him because in their own stupidity they thought he was real. Now the few of them who still maintain some tiny measure of brainpower are witnessing the spoiled brat they put in office trying, just out of spite, to burn down what he hasn’t already destroyed of our democracy.

Joe Biden will nominate Merrick Garland as the new Attorney General. Some may consider it a direct shot at Moscow Mitch McConnell whose underhanded tactics kept Garland from a seat on the Supreme Court but more. It’s a good move to put someone in that important job that, as opposed to Trump’s second choice, Bill Barr, understands he will be the people’s lawyer not the President’s.

Garland is a great choice with a long background prosecuting terrorism in this country. Barr on the other hand now has a long background of harassing the President’s enemies. Good luck to Garland, I think he will provide a lot of good outcomes for the American people. Maybe he should go after Barr first.

It was fairly obvious from watching the demonstration in front of the Capitol develop on Wednesday that almost any kind of control would have kept it from happening. The fact is, there was almost zero control exerted, and when those more organized elements in the crowd realized this, they quickly took leadership and led the mob against the small number of Capitol police that were either trying to defend against them or posing with them for selfies.

It was immediately obvious that elements of the police and other security forces were not at all enthusiastic about doing their jobs. Some however were, and they exhibited heroic behavior in trying to protect their charges. But the problem came, very obviously, from those who supported the protestors and they were not just in the uniformed ranks but clearly among the command.

The FBI has been very vocal about pursuing those among the demonstrators that they feel broke the law and that’s a good thing. But what seems to be escaping censure are those in charge of all the security that failed either non- functionally or deliberately and allowed this mess to get out of hand. That’s the big problem. It has to be very obvious to all that considerable planning went into this attack on our government and it wasn’t all done on Twitter by ignorant nuts with MAGA hats; a good deal of it was done by those inside the administration or our security agencies. Those would-be terrorists must be rooted out and indicted or there will be no real national security for anyone. That will only lead to a repeat of Wednesday’s disaster. Everybody and his dog knew there was going to be trouble in DC on Wednesday. How could loyal security forces be so unprepared? It was no accident. Heads must roll.

And then there are the ignorant assholes from the GOP that refused to take and wear masks while under siege in the Capital building. Really?  These clowns decided that they would turn a safety precaution into a political statement? The result, of course, was three cases of COVID so far.  There has been talk about fining any member of congress who doesn’t wear a mask in the Capital. How about banning them from the building and then notifying their constituents of why they are no longer being represented by the boneheads that were banned?

We have a lot of rights in this country but none of those hard fought rights allow us to impose danger on our fellow citizens. That is exactly what some dumb clown is doing when he or she refuses to wear a mask in a situation where they can be in contact with others.
