The latest flack about Hillary Clinton’s emails, is much like Benghazi, a fiction developed by the twisted minds of the more wanting GOP members. What started out being trumpeted as a criminal investigation of Hillary over classified emails now turns out to be something quite different. The emails in question, were not marked classified and now it seems that they probably weren’t from Hillary. Isn’t it time for the Republicans to stop playing children’s games and get down to formulating a real sustainable plan of governance?
This column has studied the accusations against the Clinton’s for years, and has become aware of the recurring nature and false basis for many of them. The bottom line of all the accusations has always been, we can’t prove them but there are so many of them that you just can’t ignore them or trust the Clintons. These serial accusations have been going on since Bill was first elected to office. Remember Whitewater? None of the accusations have ever been proved but that doesn’t keep them from piling up.They are, the cleverest idea that the Republican Party has come up with in decades; they certainly haven’t figured out how to govern.
The basic concept is that you pick a target and keep flooding the area around them with one accusation after another. It doesn’t matter if the accusations are true or even plausible; they just have to keep coming. After a while the volume of the accusations and the continual onslaught become impossible to overcome. The goal is the belief on the part of the public, that with all these accusations, something has to be true. It doesn’t make a bit of difference that you can’t prove a single accusation. All that matters is that they are made. That’s where we are now. Hillary can’t be trusted, there is just too much that she could possibly have done. Anybody with that much shit sticking to her has to have done something wrong. At this point nothing has to be proved, it is enough to accuse. Anything you deny looks like a lie just because you denied it. It’s a very clever, extraordinarily underhanded strategy.
It’s genius isn’t even that it makes Hillary look guilty of something!. It’s that everyone, especially the media, gets so embroiled in it, that they never listen to her plans on how she will govern., which is, after all, what is supposed to be listened to during this pre-election period.
What is supposed to be happening now; is that the various candidates should be telling us what they plan to do if elected president. So far the only ones that have had any plans at all are Hillary and Sanders. The GOP candidates haven’t got plan one, unless of course you see Mexico paying us a hundred grand for each immigrant as a reality. The Republicans have spent all their time telling us what they won’t do and how they will destroy what has already been done successfully.
The Republicans may not know how to govern but they know a hell of a lot about spraying dirt and espousing causes that have very little to do with making the country work. The perfect example of this is the abortion question. It’s election time again so instead of hauling out a plan on how they will govern a country with a lot of serious problems, they are attacking Planned Parenthood on a very visceral but equally phony campaign. Why are they doing this? They’re doing it because abortion is an emotional subject, even if it only involves about one/one hundredth of one percent of the population. All you have to do is wave a picture of some cute little fetus in the womb of some adorable young mother and everyone gets all misty eyed and bent out of shape. But no Republican wants to talk about how that baby will be undernourished, under educated and lacking in medical care once it is born because its parents are frightfully underpaid for the work they are doing. That discussion will make the corporate barons angry and they will cut the campaign donations they regularly shell out to their sycophants in congress and use that money to keep the unions from the sweatshops door.
It’s time the GOP stopped the bullshit and tried to come up with some idea of how they will run the country instead of lying about Hillary and bringing up situations that don’t affect enough of the population to merit any consideration.
