The Second Republican Debate happened the other night, kind of like a multi car accident on the freeway
Bobby Jindal started things out in the loser debate by doing a number on Planned Parenthood for selling baby parts. Great start guys, always begin with a lie. It’s a really effective technique, especially if anyone in the audience has done any reading on the subject or watched the videos. Not to be outdone Carly Fiorina finished the evening debate on the same subject and when called on her veracity, went on the tube afterwards to shout to the heavens that she had seen a living, breathing, kicking fetus waiting to be chopped up. Only trouble is that no such film exists, even in the falsely edited crap put out by the Lifers.
But that was only the beginning of the death of truth on the GOP network. Rick Santorum took a shot at blaming low wages on our illegal immigrants instead of American corporations that don’t want to pay reasonable salaries. How do they come up with this stuff?
Lindsay Graham and the rest of the hawks came out for war on everyone. They all seem to think that Obama started ISIS when any intelligent person knows that all the war and misery in the current Middle East is the result of George Bush wanting to get Saddam Hussein just because his father didn’t. Of course the general war chant carried on by Graham and Marco Rubio is that if we don’t kill them over there we will be fighting them on the streets of Vegas. Not a bad idea but none of these geniuses have figured out how a bunch of medieval desert tribesmen are going to get their camels across the Atlantic Ocean.
I find it hard to understand why these guys are so desperate to go to war. Let them send their kids to die for a bunch of sand rats who don’t care enough about their own people to fight for them. Rick Santorum wouldn’t want one of his kids to go.
Then, of course the discussion, as all discussions do today, turned to Donald Trump. George Pataki pointed out that the way Trump made Atlantic City greater was to open four casinos there and then bankrupt all of them, losing jobs for thousands of American workers just so he could fail without paying his bills.
Then Kim Davis jumped into the debate. Santorum defended her, claiming that he wants a law that will support religionists when they want to flaunt our laws in the name of what they interpret as moral values. Can you imagine what chaos that would cause? Every nut who didn’t want o obey the law would use Santorum’s law to flaunt it. Santorum is Brain dead and so is Mike Huckabee who followed him down the same road but seems to have decided that he no longer wants to stand in for Ms Davis in the can.
In a discussion about Supreme Court judges, Jindal complained that they have changed their minds on certain subjects and not voted along party lines. Chief Justice Roberts seems to fit this description. Jindal seems to want judges who don’t think but who act only as he wants them to act. This thought process is human but not intelligent. But then we’re speaking about Bobby Jindal.
And of course, like all political discussions led by the Right we ended up back at Benghazi. Lindsay Graham can’t resist attacking Hillary, asking where she was on the night of that attack. Well, she was in DC where she belonged. The CIA and our military, the ones who were supposed to be protecting our embassy, are the ones who were AOL. By the way, Lindsay wasn’t there either.
There was one great idea from George Pataki, the guy who shone in the early debate. He would pass a law that prohibits anyone who serves even one day in congress from ever being a lobbyist. Good for him. Of course the 535 members of congress have taken out a contract on him.
Who won the first debate? Probably Pataki. He seemed reasonable and thoughtful. Would he make a good president? Not if you lived in New York when he was governor.
Jindal lied so much you couldn’t figure out what he actually believed and what he was making up. Lindsay Graham spent so much time wanting to go to war he forgot about all other policies. However, he did make a good case for getting done what you could, and not banging your head against a wall trying to do the impossible. Santorum has so many bad thoughts and so many senseless ideas that anyone with a brain is forced to dismiss him as a fool, but Pataki, who had some good ideas about taxes and immigration seemed to have the best grasp of what a president should be talking about.
DEBATE #2
Unfortunately the chief moderator Jake Tapper opened the debate with what seemed like a program of instigating the debaters to attack each other. We all realize that political candidates calling each other names is good reality TV but that isn’t, despite CNN’s desperate search for ratings, what we tuned in for. This was supposed, at least, to be an attempt at a serious debate.
Trump immediately attacked Rand Paul and then bragged about all the money he’s made and how successful he’s been. He repeated that a couple of times and then attacked Pataki and Jeb Bush. Trump just doesn’t get it. He brought a bludgeon to a knife fight. He’s basically a punk.
It got a little better down the road when John Kasich stopped the flow to announce that the point of the debates was to give the public a look at what the candidates wanted to do abut running the country, not how they could spit and pull air like a bunch of nasty little girls.
Ben Carson stepped into the void and when he spoke in generalities was very impressive. It’s when he gets down to specifics and particular pieces of knowledge that he falls off the cliff. Carson is obviously a very bright man who has been too lazy to find out the facts that he will have to know to govern this country. That is inexcusable, especially since so few of the GOP candidates are even remotely bright.
Carly Fiorina decided that she had to talk about what makes a leader and never realized that she was describing exactly what Barak Obama did with Obamacare. It’s too bad that none of her co-candidates has the vision to see this.
Outside of Bush, Rand Paul, John Kasich and possibly Marco Rubio, none of these guys have any concept of how to run a foreign policy. Ripping up agreements on day one is the act of a stupid child, not a president and yet one after another swore to do that. Only Kasich Paul and Trump stood up to them and in doing so, Kasich, at least, looked presidential.
Mike Huckabee made a big speech about us giving Iran billions of dollars. He clearly wasn’t intelligent enough to understand that we aren’t giving Iran any money; that banks from other nations are simply releasing Iran’s money back to them. What Huckabee says is nothing but pure stupidity.
Watching the show one comes to realize that certain candidates are just not ready for prime time. I refer to Cruz, Huckabee, Fiorina, Walker and Trump.
Watching Cruz and Fiorina lie about Planned Parenthood selling baby parts is just too nauseating to be digested.
I was also surprised to hear Chris Christie lie about this when he said that Hillary is for allowing the preservation of baby body parts for sale. If these guys can’t win their points without lying and if the people who are running the debate can’t call them on their lies then the debate is useless.
It’s fascinating that almost to a man, when one of the candidates made a plea for some popular issue, like minimum wage, education, infrastructure or the climate, it was always an issue that even though they were proselytizing for it, they have a voting record of being almost completely against it. I have never seen a more cynical bunch of bullshitters in my life. The perfect example was Mike Huckabee who at one point in the debate made a pitch for the country to focus on cures instead of treatment of disease. This sounds great but in the next breath he will state that he is definitively against Obamacare, which is the only program ever developed in this country that concentrates on cures rather than treatment.
So generally speaking, the Republican Party proved unequivocally, in this second debate, that they have no clue on how to run a debate.
Bush talked about how 2 million more people were living in poverty than when Obama took office. What fantasy world do his figures come from? It was his idiot brother that drove this country into poverty by allowing the changes that collapsed our economy. Why do I mention this among all the lies, misstatements and false figures that ran amok among this panel of pathetic losers? Because there were really only two people on this panel who didn’t obviously lie and use false attacks on the Democrats and more importantly on each other. Those men were Ben Carson and John Kasich, and only Kasich has the knowledge and background to run this great country.
The biggest problem with the debate; was the almost complete abdication of the concept of reality. When Jeb Bush told us that his brother kept us safe, one is forced to wonder about his definition of the word safe. What the hell is he talking about? 911 happened on Bush’s watch. Over 3000 American’s were killed while George Bush was reading fairy tales to kids in Florida; this after the powers that were, had been warned about an Arab attack that was about to happen. How the hell does that read as keeping us safe? If we had been any safer we’d all be dead
Listening to the talking heads after the debate was almost as unreal as listening to the likes of Bush, Fiorina and Cruz during it. Bush’s idea that his defective brother had kept us safe, was almost universally ignored by the commentators, who let his remark go completely without comment, even though it was so blatantly false. Sure, this was a partisan party all the way from the questions, to the debaters to the commentators but there is only so much bullshit that they can expect one to stomach.
After the debate Trump went to Rochester, New Hampshire to address a group of his fans. The Q&A, conducted for a rabble of drooling, knuckle draggers, most of them native born but with only a casual acquaintance with English, showed dramatically what actually comprises Trump’s camp followers.
The first question, was from some Neanderthal who claimed that Obama was a Muslim and not an American and what are we going to do about the Muslim training camps that are formed all over America? Does Trump tell him that we’re going to send these Muslim killers to your house because you’re too dumb to breathe? No He tells this idiot that he’s going to look into it. The perfect, cowardly political move. Just the kind of thing that Trump has been railing about to attack the other politicians. You don’t want to tell the truth, Donald, not if it means losing a single vote. You’re going to need every one.
John McCain, faced with the same situation eight years ago, gently took the microphone from a befuddled housewife and calmly explained that Obama was not Muslim but was a loving Christian family man who he disagreed with on many points but who was basically a good man. That’s how heroes talk. Of course McCain was serving his country while Trump was dodging the draft.
So let’s take a look at each candidate and how he or she did.
Trump- Almost completely uninformed about foreign policy, and just about everything else. He couldn’t give a substantive answer to anything. “I will make you win so much you’ll get bored with winning,” is not an answer to: How do you get Putin out of Ukraine? It’s what he does all the time.
Carly Fiorina- A lot of Republicans think she won the debate. What she did was to give a fine example of well-prepared public speaking. What she didn’t do was tell the truth- ever, about anything. Her business background will kill her, if lying about what she has seen about babies on film doesn’t. Don’t forget, it was under Fiorina that HP undercut the sanctions on Iran by selling them tech materials. This is the move of a greedy traitor, who now rails against the Iran Treaty.
Marco Rubio- Did a good job of explaining his positions but can’t help looking like the kid next door. 2024 is what he should be looking to and in that vain he should not give up his seat in the Senate.
Rand Paul- looks like a nice guy who is in way over his head. He makes a lot of sense about a lot of things; has some good points but almost no ability to get them across.
Mike Huckabee- Really has nothing new to say about anything. His religious bigotry puts him in the; couldn’t consider, category. This goes in spades with his inability to understand why everyone doesn’t believe the same illogical crap that he does. He has more potential to become Adolph Hitler than anyone else on the dais.
Jeb Bush- Just another Bush and we have had far too much of that family in the White House. He comes across as a nice guy but the fact that he feels his brother protected a nation that was attacked on the mainland for the first time in history, had its economy crash and invaded two countries for no good reason, puts his ability to think correctly in the toilet.
Ben Carson – Seems to have decided that confrontation on any level is not what he’s about. That’s just not what we need in the White House
Ted Cruz – Has seen the truth and he’s offended by it. Fortunately many of us aren’t. He’s hoping that Trump crashes and he inherits the knuckle draggers.
Scott Walker – He is falling so fast that he should crash within the next month. He knew how to get elected three times in Wisconsin but not much else. Every word out of his mouth is like a shovel full of dirt for his grave.
Chris Christie – Had a pretty good debate if you can ignore his facts that weren’t. Another guy who thinks he can bully everyone.
John Kasich – Looked like a winner, even if he didn’t make enough noise to please the media. Maybe if he punched Ted Cruz in the mouth, the rest of the press would pay attention to him. He is the best GOP candidate, smart, honest, straightforward and with a background in economics, governance and foreign policy. He would be a no brainer to all but the Republican base, just like Jon Holtzman was last time.
All in all, it was a pretty disappointing group, and a very dismal night, certainly nothing for the GOP to celebrate.
