Facts, Myths and Reality

A couple of very interesting guests were on Bill Maher last week. Gillian Tett, author of Anthro-Vision, and Yuval Noah Harari, Author of Unstoppable Us, led a discussion on how expanding technology affects the human race. The discussion covered the area of expanding technology and went on to acknowledge the fact that we are capable of saving the planet with the technology currently available and what is actually a minimal investment of only about 2% of total world expenditure each year. Unfortunately, they never got deeply into exactly what that would entail and why we have not done it?

The answer, of course, is profit! The driving motivation of the billionaire class. Those that are heavily invested in fossil fuels are, because of their wealth, able to manipulate the world’s markets to keep their destructive product in the forefront of the world’s usage, despite the fact that it is destroying the planet we live on.

There is no reasonable argument for the use of fossil fuels over renewables. There is only profit. The reality is so strong that there is only one usable argument, and it is so weak that even the oil giants are embarrassed to use it.  It is the laughable position that a leap in employment will come from the use of fossil fuels, but the reality is that they are an old technology and all their plant was built long ago. The use of renewables will create far more jobs because that industry is at its inception and in order to put it in motion, we have to build everything it needs to flourish. Certainly, there is repair and replacement work that needs to be done for the fossil fuel industry but nothing like the job of building a whole new infrastructure for renewables.

There are, as I write this, 9 days until the election and the Democrats are losing their chance to convince the American people that inflation and the current state of the economy have little to do with anything the Democratic Party has done during their brief time in office. The facts are simple. Yes, there is massive inflation. Yes, everything costs twice what it should. The biggest part of the Democrats problem is that the reasons are complicated, and they are dealing with an American electorate that just isn’t sophisticated enough to grasp them. an electorate that finds it easier to just try the other party, rather than figure out what’s wrong, what caused it, and what can be done about it. Asking the general public to be able to follow and organize the results of a plague, a war and the replacement process for the world’s primary energy source may well be far beyond the abilities of any voting group. It is certainly far beyond the group we have now, especially considering the almost complete lack of truth coming from a planless GOP.

So, the question becomes how do the Dems educate millions of voters in 9 days when they haven’t been able to do it in 2 years? The answer is they don’t. So, they must spend every cent they have left stating and restating this simple message. “The GOP under Trump caused this and if you elect them, they will make it worse. Look at what we have passed for the American people in under two years. Think how much more we will pass if given two more.”

They must throw out simple, truthful ideas and hope they stick, because if they don’t and the GOP takes back the House or the Senate all the great stuff the Democrats have passed under Joe Biden will be wasted, ignored, changed, or eliminated and as usual, the American people will, be well and truly fucked by the GOP.

Sources tell us that there are almost 300 election deniers running in various races around the country and that 67% of them are favored to win. These numbers are inconceivable to me. Why would an election denier want to participate in an election? Even more important why would someone vote for anyone who believes that he or she is participating in a process that is basically dishonest?

It appears ludicrous to me that we continue our current voting system when enough voters to elect 67% of election deniers are participating in the election. What we really need is an election to decide whether the American people want to proceed with our current democratic system or if they want something else and if they do, what?

Do we want a system of laws with a leader who is elected every four years with backup systems of checks and balances that keep that leader in line while giving him extraordinary powers, or do we want to just vote for the next pseudo-Trump and turn it all over to him so that he can ignore the Constitution and the law, and simply become our first dictator.

Don’t laugh, it’s a way to go. If the voting public isn’t convinced that it’s the wrong way to go after four years of a blubbering, lying, moronic sociopath, stealing from the country with both hands while attempting to instigate a violent coup, all while destroying our leadership of the world community through his uninformed and clownish interactions with other world leaders, then maybe that’s what the voters of this country deserve. Then it will be up to the real Republicans to stop the Trump, Greene, Gaetz, degenerates from turning what’s left of this country into the festering power platform they seek. But how will they do that when they haven’t even been able to stand up on their hind legs and speak the truth about who won the last election?

The economy rules the roost, but abortion has and will be a huge item in the coming election and so will immigration. Unfortunately, everything is under the lingering cloud of unattainable truth. The degenerate scum that attacked Paul Pelosi is a case in point. This nut had a presence on social media that screamed “lock me up,” quoting and instructing on everything supported by the crazies like Marjorie Taylor Greene and her cohorts.  Every red flag was waving.  Eating babies was leading the way. But what can you expect from a degenerate like DePape when major industrial leaders like Elon Musk are quoted as saying stuff like, “there may be another agenda in the Paul Pelosi attack.” The scary part is that this clown just bought Twitter. Doesn’t seem like we want someone with that little understanding of “cause and effect” owning a major communications hub like Twitter.

Don’t these people, especially those who have an approximation of a brain, like Elon, realize that there must be some basis of reality in any kind in any kind of statement that they make? If there isn’t, if there is no such thing as truth on which to fall back, then we have no basis for any kind of reality, on which to base what we say in any discussion. No point in trying to make a point.

“We have a plan,” is the mantra of the Democrats, but it may be too little too late.  We all know the GOP has no plan, for anything, except possibly saving money for billionaires. They have proved this point over the last 6 years when asked what they will do to solve any problem with which they have been confronted. Their answer has always been to punt. For non-sports fans, that means to give the other team the ball because you know anything you do with it will fail.

  1. For some dimwitted reason I cling to the thought that reason will override fear and me-me and the democratic- republic basis of our benighted nation will right itself and override those who believe votes don’t really count.*
