Everybody’s marveling over how the two leading candidates have such low approval ratings; Hillary at -53% and Trump at -73% but that’s nothin’. This campaign is just getting to the dirty part and neither Hillary nor the Donald is going to walk away without serious blood letting.
This blog stated last November that Trump was winning because he was willing to say anything, true or not, about anybody. Everybody was afraid to fight back. That has been true up to now, but once Bernie is off the slate, the gloves will come off and all the history of Donald Trump that no one has brought up yet will come out and burn him to smoldering embers.
The Curmudgeon has also stated repeatedly that the reason Trump is so popular in many areas of the country is that they don’t really know him. All they have in their heads are his empty promises and the image he carefully nurtured on his TV show of a strong man that knows how to be in charge.
He fired all those stars, they murmur in wonder. He must be a really tough guy. Yeah, it really took a tough guy to fire those already faded stars who were getting their biggest paycheck in years to swallow their pride, keep their mouths shut and do what they were told.
But he won in New York, they say. Sure he did, he swept upstate where all the cities are disintegrating into rust. People out of work will vote for anyone who promises them a job. This is something Trump is very good at; the promises that is, not the job. But in New York City where we have lived with his egomaniacal outbursts, his tasteless displays of phony wealth and his underhanded business practices for decades, it was quite another matter. The only close-up look the people from outside the city get at Trump, has been the row of future slum high rises that line the West Side Highway from 72nd Street to 65th Street; declaiming Trump’s name in huge fading gold letters (very tasteful) but belonging to a Japanese conglomerate. What they don’t see when looking at those buildings is the massive traffic problems that they have caused due to Trump’s underhanded dealings with local officials that ended up closing much needed entrances and exits from local streets to the highway. But what did Trump care that he was inconveniencing and endangering hundreds of thousands of local residents. The buildings went up and his name is on them? That’s just the kind of hairpin he is.
So far, The Donald has been very fortunate. His opponents have not opened up on him the way he has on them. For some it was due to fear of retaliation from a man who has no filters, a man who will say and act, any way that occurs at any second. Yes, that’s a really good character trait for a man who wants to be president – of North Korea.
It would seem, his opponents, it seems have been waiting for the appropriate moment and it really appears that the moment has arrived for the Democrats to seriously enter the fray.
Elizabeth Warren, it appears, has decided that it is time for her to enter the fray with a vengeance. Her speech yesterday about Trump was enough to fry his brains and he immediately reacted just as we all thought he would, throwing invective, name calling, exhibiting all the stature of a five years old child, throwing a tantrum.
The latest piece of ammunition that Trump gratuitously handed to the Left is a piece of video in which he speaks to the hope that the economy will crash so he can make a lot of money. This gratuitous piece of thoughtless stupidity was made by him and his minions when they were trying, simultaneously, to sell Trump University to hordes of suckers who only after they’d shelled out large sums to cash to Trump the con man, realized that they had been had, big time. They are now suing.
This phony sales pitch was issued just as the country was about to experience the biggest crash sine 1929. Millions of people were going to lose their jobs, their homes and their savings as thousand of businesses disappeared and the nation lost trillions in total wealth. Yet, this is what the orange con man hoped would happen just so he could make a few more bucks on which he ultimately wouldn’t pay any taxes.
The infamous quote:
“I kind of hope it happensul, (the real estate bubble bursting) because then people like me would go in and buy. If there is a bubble burst, as they call it. You know, you can make a lot of money.”
Donald Trump in 2006
For all those guys who are struggling and hoping that a vote for Trump will be a vote to give them a hand up; that was Trump stepping on our head so he won’t get his thousand dollar shoes wet as he crosses a puddle.
It would be disastrous for this country and all in it if Trump were to become president. As you say, he could and would do untold damage, some from blunder, some from malice, some from greed. I have no doubt that Democrats will coalesce against him, and I’m delighted to see Elizabeth Warren leading the charge now, before the primary. No matter the outcome of the primary (and I hope Bernie Sanders will win), the Democrats all know, and Bernie has stated, that one thing that he and Mrs. Clinton agree on is the need to defeat Trump. In the meantime, Bernie’s candidacy is valid, he is a contender, and he has the opportunity and the means to point the party farther left, where it should have stayed.
