Watching the news for the last week or so, one would deduct that those on the tube and in the papers had all been born in the last four weeks. For those of us who actually existed before 911, the deceit that was called the War in Iraq. is established fact. The administration lied. There were no WMDs. Hussein had no plans to send nuclear weapons against Washington because he had none. What he did have was oil and there’s nothing that makes a Bush want to invade like the smell of oil.
That invasion is why Iraq is in the shape it is in today. Sure, there are contributing factors. Maliki is a main one. Once again we picked the guy who kissed our ass the hardest instead of the guy who knew best how to run a country. We have a long and miserable history of this. One would think that eventually we would learn, but alas, there are no current signs of that happening.
Once again, our country had gone into a war with no idea of how they were going to get out. It’s called an exit strategy and we didn’t have one. But didn’t they learn anything from Vietnam, one would ask. Apparently not. But why would one expect a gang of hubris inflated, dummies like Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove, Rice, Wolfowitz, Brenner, et al, to actually think. There was a war to be fought. They all got hard and plunged in. The remnants of that messed up gang are still around, still having learned nothing, still looking for someplace to bomb. They are led now by John McCain.
Just imagine if McCain hadn’t picked the Nut from he North as his running mate and he had actually won the election. We would now be at war with half the planet. At this minute, McCain would probably settle for Syria and Iraq for a starter but he wouldn’t really be happy until we had boots on the ground in Iran, Libya and three or four African nations. There have even been rumors that he is casting a warlike eye at Iceland.
One would think that McCain would have learned something about the horrors of war from his stay at a Vietnam prison camp but that unfortunately is wishful thinking.
When Obama refused to seek condemnation of the Bush administration war criminals he left the door open for them to become tube celebrities and gain a forum to air their misinformed, dishonest opinions about U.S. foreign policy. The fact that Cheney is allowed out of the house without a keeper, let alone inflicted on national TV, is almost a greater shame than the policies, which he directed, that almost drove this country into the ground.
It’s farcical that the Republican’s have the consummate nerve to attack Obama’s foreign policy, considering the one he inherited from Bush. At the end of the Bush administration just about every country in the world, hated and mistrusted us. Now, at least, there are a couple that aren’t so sure. Obama has broken his ass to get America to a place where we can get people to listen to us and respect us without having to drop bombs on there capitals.
No, everyone doesn’t ask how high when we say jump. Many other nations are smart enough to understand that an intelligent President isn’t ready to bomb at the drop of a hat. But don’t make any mistake about it. No one is underestimating our strength., There isn’t a nation in the world and that includes Russia and China, combined, that can stand up to us in a shooting war. We are the big cheese and no one, repeat, no one, is going to forget that. What they also understand, is that with Bush and the neocons out of the way, we are sane enough, that we aren’t going to nuke anyone over nothing.
That’s why little nations stand up and shake their dicks at us. They know they are too insignificant, especially if they don’t have something that we want, to attract our anger.
So we have to keep our temper, realize that we have nothing to gain by getting involved in Iraq. Those people have been fighting successfully for a thousand years. They’re very good at it. All we have to do is leave them alone until they get tired and settle their differences some other way.
All the neo-cons are having a fit about ISIS creating a terrorist state in the north of Iraq. Maybe they will. But instead of wasting our resources in trying to stop that, why don’t we just sit back and see if they can even get and hold that area once Iran gets its troops in there. Maybe if we stop sticking pins in al-Qaeda and ISIS they will worry more about killing Shiites than Americans. The Bush and previous administrations were all about getting in there and getting the oil and other minerals. Maybe if Obama can keep his head and make them realize that we don’t give a rat’s ass about what happens to them, they will see that as a reality, and concentrate on killing each other; in which case we will be glad to stop hitting them with drones.
This is, I realize, a somewhat far fetched scenario but at some point in history we have to back off other countries fossil fuels since we already have far too much of them ourselves. Once we have accomplished that maybe we will be satisfied to leave them alone and without a dog in the fight, maybe, just maybe we can finally step up to our self-appointed regal position of world arbiter of justice.
