Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries spent a good piece of his time on THIS WEEK, extolling the giant steps the Democrats have made in getting people elected since Trump took office. That sounds great, but you still have Trump and the useless clowns he appointed making bad decisions.

Last month, the Catholic Bishops of America issued a condemnation of our government’s immigration policies. That was a pleasant surprise to those of us who have seen the Church practice silence in reference to the blundering, unconstitutional, immoral practices of the Trump administration since he took office.
Interestingly, the highest-ranking Catholic in our government is Vice President JD Vance, a convert to Catholicism, having originally been an Evangelical Christian before turning to atheism. Then, two years before he launched his political career, he moved on to a safer Roman Catholicism.
He has not as yet jumped into the waters on this one, which has created a good deal of comment. Let’s hope he keeps it that way. Vance’s faith should never be a factor in his decisions as veep. This standard was set by John F. Kennedy, when he established that his faith must stand in abeyance to his duty as president of the nation.
The bishops have obviously made their proclamation because of the religious make-up of those who are being attacked by this administration’s prejudicial policies. It’s unfortunate that this seems to be the only reason for their actions. The Jesus that I learned about in Catholic grade school would certainly not stand in support of the current wave of antisemitism.

Donald Trump has nominated himself peacemaker of the year and is busy campaigning for a Nobel Prize, but none of the eight wars he claims to have ended is very evident and the wars that seem to be holding the attention of the public are still causing people to die.
Historian Doris Kearns Goodwin points to the ability of a president like JFK, who stated he had made a huge mistake in the Cuban Missile Crisis. He learned from his errors and, given the chance, would not repeat that decision, as opposed to the ego-maniacal stubbornness of Trump, who never admits to a mistake and so continues to fuck up. He’s already shown us that he is unable to deal with the problem children Putin and Netanyahu, who really don’t want peace because it provides them with no personal reward. Trump just doesn’t understand that there is no reward for these death mongers. He must provide them with realistic penalties if they do not back off. With Bibi, he must be able to promise a withdrawal of American weaponry and air power. With Putin, it must be the reality of fully supplying everything Ukraine needs to threaten homeland Russia with exactly what the Ukrainian people have been living with the last four years.
But that won’t end it, because now there’s Iran. Yes, Iran, a nation that for the last century has been causing trouble in the Middle East and across North Africa. A nation ruled by Sharia Law, the Muslim version of hell on earth.
It started in 1921 with the coup that deposed the Qajar Dynasty, putting Reza Shah Pahlavi in power. His son of the same name replaced him in 1953, when with the help of the U.S. foreign service, he forced the functional and popular Mohammad Mossadegh out of office. It’s been downhill ever since, until President Obama negotiated a nuclear treaty with the Iranians that would have eventually taken them off the nuclear tote board. Unfortunately, Obama was followed by Donald Trump and that fool rescinded the treaty, putting Iran back in the middle of the Middle East mess.
It looked like Biden might have had a shot at reworking the treaty, but MAGA mouths wouldn’t shut up, and now we are stuck with a president who doesn’t understand anything but needs to have his big mouth open in the middle of everything. Now we are faced with a nation that desperately needs to lose a war to us in order to continue the tradition of nations who lose wars to us having their economies saved by that fortunate occurrence. Unfortunately, they are stuck with us looking for peace. Meanwhile the people of Iran are just about in full revolt against their leaders and all we have to do is encourage the revolutionaries with some money and some support and we can rule Iran without firing a shot. Unfortunately, Trump is just too unaware to see this and really thinks he has to start a shooting war to get peace.

The 2024 election produced many strong reactions but none more surprising than the shift of the Latino vote to the right
It was simply stunning how that block of voters shifted to a lying Trump despite the fact that he had already stated he was going to try sending them all back from where they came. It was practically the only promise he made that he kept, and now a people who over the years have fled a long list of Central and South American dictators are faced with a president who is only keeping one promise, that he will kick them out of the country. Who should they be pissed off at other than themselves for buying this liar’s only truth? Strangely, they don’t seem to be in open rebellion over Trump’s only honest action.

Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi is retiring next week after more than 40 years of service to her country. She leaves as the most important woman in our nation’s political history. It was Pelosi who fought against the crazed Trump and his disgraceful attempt to grab the government on January 6th. With the emergence of Trump, it was Pelosi and her husband who were attacked by a Trump supporter in what appears to be the one of the few real assassination attempts in the last couple hysterical years.

The renewal of the College Football Playoff National Championship forced its way before the American public this weekend, and it’s like the redneck clowns who run college football have forgotten how to do it. First, they left Notre Dame, one of the three or four best teams in the country, out of the championship in a blatant attempt to force them to join a conference, and then they decided to replace regular professional announcers with a six-man clown show, costumed in black-and-white drag, to add an unintelligible noise factor to the broadcast of the Ohio State-Miami game. Yes, I can understand that you’re worried about viewer interest when you don’t have the best teams playing, but trying to foist this circus act on the sports-loving public was unforgivable. Let’s get rid of the gang of brain-dead clowns currently running the championship series and replace them with coaches and GM’s from reputable schools, whose only axe to grind is producing a functional tournament that produces the next national champion of football, not just bad TV.
Good post Bill!
