No Grasp of Reality

Anticipating their House takeover in the New Year, non-functional Republicans are promising to push investigations into everything, except why they allowed a madman to try to overthrow the government, Investigations, primarily against Hunter Biden, but also, the Ending of the Afghanistan War, the handling of the COVID crisis and Biden’s immigration policies.

What are your thoughts? Having not paid much attention to Hunter I have little knowledge of what he was supposed to have been doing wrong, but what little I know about seems to have nothing to do with our government. So, if there is any investigation into his dealings it probably should come from some DA and not from congress.

Of course, Kevin McCarthy is so busy salivating over his up-coming, maybe induction as Speaker of the House that he just can’t wait to get started on his attack agenda. It’s a shame that he can’t find something positive to do that might benefit the nation, like all the legislation that Biden and the Dems have pushed through into law without interference from the idiots representing the GOP.

Of course, passing legislation instead of chasing Biden’s kid would pre-suppose that the GOP had some kind of plan on how to run a government. Yeah, good luck with that.

They had four years under Trump to do something for the 99% of the citizens who aren’t rich. They would have had another four years if they had accomplished anything in the first four, but their leader Trump was so busy lying to America and trying to steal from

Her that all he did was make enemies and then lie some more about so called “fake election results.”

So, now the GOP wants to investigate Hunter Biden, who isn’t really functional enough to steal as much as the Trump kids. Then, they want to get into the drawdown of the Afghan war, which was about twenty years overdue and handled as well as any end of war sequence in my long memory. Tragically, some casualties occurred, but if Biden let the war run another month the same number of casualties would have been added to the toll, so it was a wash, and we got our people out of there.

As far as the handling of COVID, Trump was the one who lied to the nation about the danger because he thought it would be impossible for his inept administration to handle a plague. Well, he was right, they weren’t. But the drug companies, smelling a huge profit, rushed their vaccines to the market, and when he took office, Biden managed to get it under control.

As far as the immigration problem goes, it was Trump who didn’t want all these “rapists and drug dealers, (Trump’s description) coming across the border, so he set up a Trumpian, (another word for useless) system, of ripping babies from mother’s arms, that Biden is trying to unravel. But it’s taking time.

So, good luck to Kevin McCarthy, another useless loser from the Trump administration who will now apply his acquired skills for non-function to problems that do not exist instead of doing something that will actually help the people of the nation.

The World Cup, the championship of what is probably the most popular sport on the planet, sorry American football fans, is happening and world leaders all over the globe are sweating out the possibilities of protest against various human rights violations by athletes from the competing nations.  This is nothing new. Athletes have been using sports contests as stages from which to advertise their outrage for years. Just in the modern era, we see potent examples in John Carlos, Mohammad Ali, and Colin Kaepernick.

Still, the Lords of Sports will tell us that the playing fields of the world are too pure a place for political statements, while, unfortunately for them, the athletes of the world will be telling them exactly what they ae full of!

Right now, Iranian players are protesting their Morality Police, while Chinese athletes are protesting their COVID lockdown as other players from other countries are letting the world know how they feel about various abuses in their own countries.  It’s the greatest stage in the world. Why waste it?

The prisoner swap of Brittney Griner for a Russian arms dealer has caused a bit of unexpected blowback, mostly from the GOP but also to some smaller degree from Democrats. The “fly in the ointment” seems to be one Paul Whelan, an ex-Marine currently held on espionage charges by the Russians. Many wanted Whelan to be part of the deal, but the Russians just said NO. No one who objects to the deal was part of the negotiating process so, there is no real fact-based position either way, but those who made the deal say the Russians insisted it be Griner alone or no one. Understanding that the “OK” had to be given by Putin, and that there was no political pressure pushing him to bring back the arms dealer, makes it completely understandable that this was the only realistic possibility.

Adam Kinzinger has stated that while we are all glad to get Brittney home, we have now established that we will do anything to get one American back.  Maybe, and maybe we will have a different position in the future.

Don’t forget another little mentioned American named, Mark Vogel, who was arrested a year and a half ago on marijuana charges and is now facing a 14-year sentence. Neither his arrest nor Brittney’s are under contest. They were both dumb enough to bring drugs into a foreign country. As someone who has worked around a good portion of the globe, I can say, without fear of contradiction, that the intelligent move is to make sure you have a clean persona before entering any foreign country and especially one that is hostile to the US. Neither Griner nor Vogel bothered with this, and both have paid the penalty. The big question seems to be, was Whelan a setup or is his arrest legit? This whole megillah is not over. Even as I write this, we have picked up a Russian and a Ukrainian on charges of shipping prohibited technology to Russia. Yeah, it’s probably legit but it’s also very convenient, considering we need someone arrested for espionage to trade for Whelan.

But these aren’t the only Americans being held in foreign countries as hostages in potential trades.

Emad Shargi is being held with other Americans in Iran. Like him, many of these hostages didn’t get arrested for any particular crime. They were just picked up and are now officially designated, “hostage”. The problem seems to be that the more we negotiate, the more certain countries grab our people. Whereas we probably don’t want to start a war with each of these countries, it may be time to just round up every Iranian that gets off the next plane from Tehran and hold them just because they are Iranian until we work out a trade with the religious nuts that run their government.

Sure, I know that’s overkill and not a charitable thought, but every once in a while, you just want to do something that shakes up the existing religious structure and gives a hypocritical power junkie like Khamenei a glimpse of reality.
