The Democrats understood they couldn’t do a normal convention with Trump’s virus spreading across the land so they tried something else, something that was part Democratic convention and part one-sided debate.
I expected the GOP version to have a good deal of exaggeration. I expected the truth to be stretched to the breaking point but I really didn’t expect what happened. We all know that Trump lies almost every time he opens his mouth but what went on with every speaker over four days was astounding.
What really amazed me was that the Trump administration has obviously chosen to make Trump the hero of the COVID-19 plague when in truth he is the one who has been responsible for the way it ran out of control and killed 175,000 Americans.
The speakers started lying the moment they hit the stage, accusing the Democrats of causing all the nation’s problems and trying to sell the deranged notion that Trump would solve them. It quickly became obvious that backing the big lie is the only way the GOP can see their way out of the disaster they have in the White House.
Ronna McDaniel, the RNC chairwoman, the most important woman in the GOP, felt obligated to tell us how enamored she was of being a housewife. Really? When she finished lying about being Donna Reed she felt it was okay to lie about healthcare, defunding the police, medical care for immigrants, all in her first paragraph. Ronna really set the tone for the rest of the night.
In that first night it was clear that this would be a week of lies, because there is really nothing that these poor slobs could truthfully say about Trump that would actually help him. So when McDaniel tells us that Joe Biden will raise taxes on 89% of the population, eliminate ten million jobs in the fossil fuel industry, chase most of the other jobs out of the country and allow abortion even after delivery we have to understand that this is just the typical BS that comes out of all Trump supporters and the main reason why we should have a fact checker on all convention speeches but more important on the debates between Trump and Biden
If you were waiting to hear the Republican platform you were destined to be disappointed. The GOP had no platform. They don’t have one because the president doesn’t have one. So I guess the plan for the next four years is more of the same; just more defeat, disaster, disillusionment, and despair.
It’s really pathetic when a loser like Trump has to come out and make it look like all the things he did wrong were actually right, or if wrong, done by someone else. Of course he has to lie to do that but lying never bothered Trump.
For me the final straw was the McCloskeys of St Louis, a pair of rich assholes who the GOP should be hiding instead of glorifying. They stood in front of their mansion as peaceful protestors marched past on a public street, pulled out guns and threatened the marchers. These are the same scumbags who ripped down a beehive that was being kept by children who wanted to make honey for a religious festival at the Temple, which happened to be next door to their tax delinquent mansion. They are a study in American scum.
Nikki Haley was next and she showed the world why, while being our Ambassador to the UN, she had managed to miss the whole point of the UN. Nikki wasn’t satisfied to just lie about the UN, she felt obligated to go out and lie about just about everything she had seen in the last ten years.
And finally the man I had been waiting for, that great American sportsman, Don Trump Jr., who spends his vacations killing endangered species entered the stage and broke the Pinocchio meter. The guys at the fact check boards needed PTSD therapy as he lied about every single thing he spoke about. But it was when he spoke about not tearing down monuments to the great men who had built our nation that I almost fell off the chair. Yeah, let’s hear it for all them old Confederates.
I had planned to watch the whole four days because I thought it was important to writing this blog. But I wasted a lot of time sitting around and watching people do nothing but lie, especially when they aren’t very good at it.

But the really big news on Monday was that Michael Steele, former head of the RNC has announced that he will be joining the Lincoln Project and campaigning for Biden. That’s huge news but even more important is that over two-dozen former elected Republicans have now announced that they will be voting for Biden and not Trump. This is unprecedented in the political history of this country.

Larry Kudlow used to be an almost functional economist but after the nonsense he spewed out on the convention’s second night he will never be remembered for anything other than being the second biggest liar in the Trump administration. His speech which started out talking about how Trump inherited a failing economy, which is blatantly false, to lying about all kinds of booms that we are supposed to be enjoying right now in the middle of the pandemic, was as completely false as anyone could imagine.
They sent some guy named Peterson out to tell us about how Trump is dependable. Maybe we should ask the Kurds how they feel about that.
And then the GOP decided to start the war on Biden’s kids. It’s really a huge blunder, especially when they send out a blonde bimbo named Pam Bondi to tell us all about what a bad guy Hunter Biden is when you have the Trump boys speaking on the same bill. Hunter got a job with a gas company in Ukraine because his old man was VP. Sure Hunter had no background in gas. That Seems a lot like the idiot Louis DeJoy who’s now running he post office with no background in the postal service? Or maybe it’s like Rick Perry who became Secretary of Energy without knowing that his job included running he nation’s nuclear program or Betsy DeVos who Trump appointed as Secretary of Education when she had zero background in education or maybe Lynne Patton, a former wedding planner for Eric Trump, a qualification which his father obviously thought equipped her to become head of a department in Housing and Urban Development. I could go on through the whole cabinet and most of the government but you get the idea. At Least Biden didn’t give Hunter the job the way Trump gave jobs in our failing government to unqualified donors and his defective kids.
And just as an aside, Pam Bondi, when she was Attorney General of Florida abandoned a case against Trump University after she got a $25,000 donation from Trump. Letitia James in the SDNY pursued that same case and nailed Trump and his fraudulent college. Oh, and by the way, Trump made that donation out of his charity not his pocket.
And the Trump brats? Well just this week the Southern District of NY is looking to indict both of them in a $145 million dollar tax fraud case that may well end up with both boys and their crooked dad in the can.
Tiffany Trump told us all about the “thriving” economy her father is supposed to have built. Except that Barak Obama actually built it and her father is now busy tearing it down. Then she went on to talk about how Trump is trying to save healthcare. It’s nice that she loves her father but she really has to try to get her fact straight. Her father is actually trying to destroy healthcare and end coverage for 20 million Americans.
When Eric Trump appeared, all I could think of was that he had decided to grow a bad imitation of his big brother’s ugly beard. Eric is certainly a chip off the old block. He lies with the best of them. If I wanted to try to refute all Eric’s lies this column would have to run 50 pages so I’ll just say one thing; “bullshit, ten dollars, next case.”
In giving his speech from Israel Mike Pompeo violated the Hatch Act, which was instituted to prevent American government officials from participating in any political activity while working at their federal job. So either he violated Hatch by making his speech while on a diplomatic mission to Israel or he violated Hatch by using government planes and support to get to Israel to make a political speech. So take your pick but the speech was all part of a criminal activity.
Melania Trump also violated the Hatch Act by making her speech from the Rose garden. The whole damn government is just another criminal activity. She did very well until she started talking about her husband. Then she lost us. The man she was talking about had no relationship to anyone with the name Trump.
In the end it was Trump’s usurpation of the Naturalization Ceremony in which we create new American citizens that was the most cynical disgusting use of American tradition.
These people who have come from unimaginable circumstances to find new lives here and Trump used their celebration to fill his gigantic ego. As shot, it was all about Trump. A carefully cast peon to the fat white man who was giving these mostly brown seekers of asylum a chance at new lives. “Look at me, “Trump was saying. “See what a great guy I am saving all these little brown people.” No Donald, you’re just another scumbag.
Not much going on at the start of the third night. A lot of women came out and talked about a lot of nothing. At least they didn’t lie as much as the previous 2 nights but then Lou Holtz appeared and managed to disgrace a great University. We all know Lou has slipped dramatically since his days at Notre Dame but who thought he had lost enough to believe all the good things he said about a serial liar, womanizer, racist and criminal.
When they finally got to Mike Pence he did what Donald Trump couldn’t do, gave a lucid speech in which he showed Trump in the best possible light, which wasn’t very bright but surely the best he could do. It was a pretty good speech considering how little he had to sell. But at least it wasn’t packed with lies until he got to the virus and that’s when he went over the cliff. But it was when he spoke about the economy that he truly failed. And so did his chorus of white supremacists who couldn’t quite get the rhythm of Four More Years right. ******
The last night of the RNC started pretty much like the night before. Insignificant speakers babbling about how great Trump is and only lying as much as they thought they could get away with.
When Rudy Giuliani hit the stage all truth departed and so did sanity. Rudy lied with every other word and his rabid rambling can only be considered the ravings of a man who has lost it completely.
Rudy was followed by Tom Cotton who tried to attack Biden on his foreign policy ideas, but how do you do that when your client is Donald Trump who has been the absolutely worst President on foreign policy in 100 years. He’s alienated our allies and tried to use our enemies to back his election attempts. Cotton said that Biden coddled dictators. Really? Trump has publicly kissed the ass of just about every dictator in the world starting with Putin and going all the way down the road through Assad, Erdogan, Duterte and Maduro to Kim Jong-Un.
I thought Ivanka was on the brink of a really fine speech until she started to tell us about all the craftsmen who worked for and loved her father. Sure all the guys he screwed out of their last week’s wages really adored this cheap crook. But she didn’t stop there; she went on to out lie almost every other speaker at the convention.
And then we got Trump and he didn’t disappoint. He kept up his reputation lying about everything. It was nothing new, nothing interesting, just more of the same dishonest pap.
One final observation. This event drew between 1500 and 2000 Trump fanatics, packed in closely and almost universally without masks. Here in the middle of a pandemic that is out of control because of his failures, Trump has created the super spreader to end all super spreaders. He is, after all, Donald Trump who cares nothing for his nations health, only for his own ego.
