We’re Better Off Than We Think

A recent GOP primary report on ABC showed that, rather than being hurt by the current indictment, Donald Trump is in fact being helped financially.  It also draws some very unfair and unreal conclusions. It claims that after the indictment, Trump is doing 10 points better than he was a couple of weeks ago against DeSantis. That’s true but it is also a week after DeSantis declared and began spewing nonsense all over the airwaves about what he believed, and what he was going to do if elected.

It has been said many times that Donald Trump is his own worst enemy. It appears Ron DeSantis is just as much “his own enemy” as Trump or quite possibly more.  This moron is busy destroying the economy of the state of which he is currently Governor and bragging he will do the same if elected President. He really doesn’t need any other enemies. Expect him to trail Trump by at least 50 poll points before the end of the week.

I was very snide about North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum in the blog last week. I got a chance to hear him speak this week and instantly realized that he is really less significant than I implied. He is a phony billionaire trying to sell himself to us as an, “Aw shucks” farm boy who made good as Governor. He uses a factless attack on Biden to try to come up with a reason for us to pay any attention at all to his lifeless bid for a Presidency that is a long way from the baren wilderness he currently runs.

The GOP Peanut Gallery has been making an awful lot of noise lately about the “great” Trump economy” and how Biden will never be able to duplicate it.

It’s an interesting fantasy but let’s look at some facts.

The debt ceiling crisis made the country look basically dysfunctional, but the truth is, Biden solved it and now sits on a very strong economy.

The United States has recovered from the pandemic faster than any other economy in the world. Unemployment is incredibly low. The GDP has grown at 3X the pace it did under Trump. Incomes are rising while manufacturing is booming. Inflation has gone down for 10 straight months. 15% of GDP at the end of the Trump administration has dropped to 5% under Biden.

The US remains the world’s leader in business. Despite the push by China, they are still quite a bit behind us, and even if they continue to close the gap at the current rate, they are years from catching us.

The same is true of the China’s military capability. They are chasing us hard, especially on the seas, but they still have quite a way to go.

Lindsay Graham went batshit on TV this Sunday, raving about the dishonesty of the charges against Trump and how Hilary Clinton and Hunter Biden had never been charged for actions that rivaled Trump’s.

Of course not. They never committed actions that rivaled Trumps.

George Stephanopoulos cut him up in little pieces, but Lindsay continued with his largely unsupported rant, much like a small, unstable child who has been refused a treat.

Every single accusation he made was torn up and discarded by Stephanopoulos who explained why each was wrong or unsupported. But none of George’s studied logic appeared to have any impact on Lindsay who appeared to be ready to rave his way off the show and all the way back to South Carolina.

It all appeared to be the result of Donald Trump being indicted on 37 counts of various laws that have to do with national security and could land him in the can for over a century if convicted.

It looked like the media had been expecting a huge show. They had all the big deals covering it and kept promoting it right up to showtime, but they had the rug pulled out from under them by the judge who ruled no cameras inside the courtroom, and the whole thing laid a giant egg with the media who will forever more regard it as a non-event.

Playing down the event, however, did nothing to control the outpouring of lies and factual distortions` by the Trump camp. It has become glaringly apparent that no one speaking for Donald Trump has any regard for the truth.

Of course, almost none of his backers will try to defend Trump’s actions.  I have not, as yet heard one of them say that he is innocent.

Probably because it is so obvious that he is guilty. The crimes are so blatant, and self-admitted, they are all but indefensible, so they go after Hillary and Hunter Biden. The Hillary stuff was long ago dismissed for lack of evidence and more important, credulity.

Many claim that James Comey deliberately torpedoed her White House run with his announcement that he was reopening the investigation into her emails just before the election. By the time he rescinded that statement it was too late to undo the damage he had done. By that time Hillary had already undergone three years of investigations on the subject that eventually forced Comey to admit that no sane prosecutor would be able to indict her.

That hasn’t kept clowns like Graham from bringing up the emails every time they need something to balance against Trump’s constant criminal activity. The same is true of the attacks on Hunter Biden with the accusations being even more bizarre. The guy may indeed be guilty of some of the crap they are throwing at him but who cares? He is neither a government official nor an elected public servant. Sure, his old man is President, but if that was a crime all of Trump’s brats would now be serving time.

Don Jr. and Eric have been running the Trump businesses and there have already been accusations of using their family ties to drag in business from foreign governments.  The association between LIV & the PGA is sure to involve Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner, who has been chasing bin Salam for years, and is rumored to have taken down a big payment from him in a so far unrevealed deal.  But they are all small fruit when there is the big orange melon ripening at the end of the branch and at least two monster indictments still to go.
