Here we go again. The GOP has taken over congress, has the power to refund the Department of Homeland Security y and get things back on track. Everybody wants things to go smoothly… well not exactly everybody. The GOP leadership encompassing Boehner, McConnell and the rest of their bought and paid for crowd, instead of just going ahead and passing the legislation necessary to do this have tied it to a bill that would reverse Obama’s immigration reforms, thereby causing another road block.
When the hell is congress and especially this GOP led congress going to actually accomplish anything? For six years they tied up the rest of government. Now they have control of the whole pot and they still can’t even boil water.
How about showing the American people that you are something besides residual trash; finally do something right and substantive. A perfect example of the way the GOP and its Tea Party section acts is to watch Ted Cruz attack the minority Democrats in the Senate for trying to get the immigration issue out of the refunding of Homeland Security. They have nothing to do with each other but the Republicans know that they can’t get enough votes, even from their own party, to stop the immigration reforms without using the refunding of DHS as a Trojan Horse.
So yes, Boehner is willing to put the closing down of the government on the table, just to force two issues that have nothing to do with each other onto the same bill. That’s called blackmail folks. The perfect occupation for failed congressman like Boehner and Cruz.
Roger Wicker, GOP senator from Mississippi picks up the big lie when he tries to explain the situation of the House passing a bill to fund Homeland Security that cannot pass through the Senate until the immigration rider that’s attached to it is removed.
Wicker is one of those old time snake oil salesmen who have been getting away with bullshitting his red neck constituency for so long that he thinks everyone else is as dumb as him and his backers. The deep drawl and the phony smile may be a big deal in rural Mississippi where most of the voters can’t read or walk upright, but it leaves those of us who recognize a lying sleaze when we see one, completely unconvinced. Wicker isn’t bright enough to understand that he should just keep his mouth shut but the promise of 5 minutes of TV exposure has lured him into trying to explain his unexplainable position on the National tube.
There is no way to explain to the American public that they aren’t getting the funding for their Homeland Security system because the GOP won’t take language that has nothing to do with Homeland Security, out of the bill that the House has passed.
This is one of the oldest flaws in our political system. It’s about sneaking irrelevant issues that are beneficial to some individual congressmen, but have nothing to do with the main subject of the legislation at hand, into bills that will pass because of their general importance.. It used to be called pork. Now no one refers to it at all because everyone knows it’s wrong but they are such sleazy losers that they won’t admit, even to its existence.
What Wicker is trying desperately to avoid is the fact that these are two completely separate issues and should be dealt with separately because the arguments for and against each, have nothing to do with each other. Even Wicker, in his reference to a “Clean Bill,” those that do not carry amendments, recognizes the illegitimacy of adding riders to bills that have nothing to do with the riders. In this case the Republicans in the House and Senate own the illegitimacy of the anti immigration stance and they know that they can’t win that one so they have stuck it on the funding bill, which everyone recognizes must be passed
It’s a cowardly and underhanded move and it’s only one of the reasons that the people of the country hate their politicians and especially their congressmen. Unlike Senator Wicker’s constituency, who were dumb enough to elect him, there is another part of the national constituency that recognizes, dishonesty and underhanded tactics and despite them wants congress to show that they can, at the very least, get this amendment on funding through both houses and onto the presidents desk. If it doesn’t happen most of the members who are up for election in 2016 can kiss their asses goodbye.
Even Fox News realizes that Boehner has put the congress in a box by adding the immigration issue to the funding issue, thereby preventing it from getting wide support. So the first thing that Boehner does when he addresses the problem is to lie. He accuses the President of saying 22 times that he didn’t have the authority to do what he did on immigration. It’s normal tactics to get very specific, (22 times) when you are propagating a big lie and Boehner knows that. In fact the President wasn’t addressing what he did on immigration when he made those statements. He was talking about other things he could but didn’t do.
Even Mitch McConnell recognizes that the Senate can’t get this mess passed in its present form. He wants the House to take back this piece of legislation, and even though for party reasons he can’t say it, for them to shave off the immigration issue and resubmit legislation that deals only with funding to the Senate. Boehner talks about the ability of the Senate Democrats to offer amendments to the bill but no one wants to add amendments, they want to take away the one that refers to immigration.
Boehner claims that the House has done its job and the Senate hasn’t done its job so now the GOP, which controls both houses can’t get its act together to do anything even when it controls everything.
The House has created a bill that they know cannot be acceptable to intelligent Congressmen. They have done this so hey can blame the Democrats when the bill fails but anyone who thinks logically knows that this is bullshit and that if they want to fund the DHS all they have to do is put out a clean bill and it will pass.
oehner keeps saying that the House has done its job but it hasn’t. He lies. The House hasn’t passed a bill that will either get through the Senate or get signed by the President so it hasn’t done its job. Boehner has been associated with a do nothing House for so long he has forgotten what it mean to do the job. All he remembers is how to double-talk and lie.
Boehner doesn’t seem to understand that passing bills that can’t pass into law is not passing bills, it’s only creating paper work, not getting the job done. Boehner is a complete failure and if he had any brains he would stop saying “we did our job” and figure out what his job is.
It’s obvious that congress has been a dismal failure for at least the last six years. Anything with a 7% approval rating is a worse than a failure. If Boehner doesn’t recognize this he shouldn’t be in congress, he should be shoveling shit on a chicken farm..
What’s really indicative of where the truth lies, is to watch the Right wing Fox news bash Boehner and the Republicans for what they are doing in this situation. Even George Will states that Boehner has to learn how to lead and that saying that the House has done its job, shows that he doesn’t know what the House’s job is. When you’re a Republican and Fox news bashes you, you are the bottom of the barrel.
