I’m sitting here on a Sunday morning watching the politicians on TV and wondering how anyone can vote for any of them. It isn’t bad enough that the Democratic Attorney General of Connecticut lies when he doesn’t have to about things that aren’t even electoral issues, it isn’t bad enough that Rand Paul, the Republican moron running for Senator in Kentucky, decides to tell the world about his differences with civil rights, then we have to listen to leaders of both parties trying to excuse these incredibly stupid blunders, hoping that in a couple of months when the election occurs the general public will possibly vote for these dunderheads despite their deficiencies. And they will. Voters will actually vote for a man who lies about his military service and a clown who doesn’t believe that everyone should have the right to walk into any food service establishment in the country and have lunch. And then these same voters have the nerve to complain about the decisions being made by their elected officials.
WHO THE HELL ELECTED THEM?
You vote for a liar you get a liar. You vote for a bigot you get a bigot. A majority of the voters in their constituencies voted for every incompetent thief, liar, bigot, drunk, imbecile and loser that now holds a seat in congress. They didn’t get there by heavenly decree, they got elected by people who were too lazy to find out what these clowns stood for, too stupid to understand the results of their positions or too blinded by their bigotry to get that petty issues like gay marriage are unimportant on the world stage that this country dominates
Politicians who aren’t qualified to take a stand on important issues create other issues that they know will appeal to the dumb and the bigoted among their electorate and pray that there will be enough of those stupid fools to get them elected. That was the plan when Bush and Cheney got elected to a second term on the issues of gay marriage and abortion when the country was dealing with a lack of suitable health care, a failing education system, a deteriorating infrastructure, an illegal war or two, a burgeoning national debt and various egregious violations of the constitution. None of this seemed to make any difference to the voters when such universe shaking issues as abortion and gay marriage were on the table. So two people of the same sex wanting to get married trumped these other minor problems and the country got what it voted for.
And they’ll do it again. There are people who will vote for Arlen Spector despite the fact that he has publically announced that he is changing his party and his point of view just to get elected. There were people who voted for Strom Thurmond, seemingly forever, despite the fact that he was an avowed bigot who stood firmly against every piece of progressive legislation that ever came before him.
We’ve all heard the saying you get what you pay for. Well, you get what you vote for and it usually costs a hell of a lot more than you thought it would.
