The State of This Union

Last week I wrote about the departure of Mitch McConnell. I tried to mitigate my antipathy for him by referring to his intelligence, but that turned out to be a huge waste of time. This week he proved his uselessness by endorsing Trump. McConnell isn’t running again so the endorsement is gratuitous and comes after Trump attacked his wife with racial comments. What kind of pathetic pimp doesn’t defend his own wife when she’s attacked by a racist bully? Obviously, the McConnell kind.

Most of those who think as I do, had always assumed that McConnell was just an unscrupulous sleaze, protecting his territory by going along to get along. But he no longer has any territory. He gave it up this week. So, what is this ass kissing that he is extending to Trump? Can he possibly think Trump is good for the country? No, even McConnell isn’t that far off the track. Is he trying to hold the Party together? But the party he spent his life defending is gone, swallowed up in the the jaws of Trump. McConnell’s Republican Party no longer exists. Where it once stood, now stands a quasi-Fascist organization with a goal of ending democracy in this country in order to establish Donald Trump as a dictator. If that’s what you want, if that’s what you’re looking for, it’s right there in front of you and you should vote for Trump in November. But if you want anything else, anything, then you must vote for Biden, no matter how you feel about him or how old he is. Even with his four-year lead he is far more lucid than Trump ever was and if you bother to look at track records there is no comparison.

Just finished watching the State of the Union message. Joe Biden came out slugging and kept hitting them over the fence, while Marjorie Taylor-Greene seemed to have lost her softball game and her manners.

For those worried that Biden could show he wasn’t too old to do the job, relax.  He gave a sharp, aggressive speech that took no prisoners, attacked all the right targets, and showed inarguably that he will tear apart Donald Trump if that fat coward dares to debate him. To paraphrase Bea Arthur, “I want what he’s having.”

He made the most important point of the night by demanding that the American people give hm a congress and that in exchange he will give them a viable country.

From the very beginning Biden was in attack mode, going after the Supreme Court, the GOP and Trump, with nary a stumble or stutter. They were there later, but never as any indication that they had anything to do with age or any loss of control.

On the other side of the coin Katie Britt of Alabama gave the GOP rebuttal, which I had intended to critique, but soon realized it would be futile. It was obvious she had adopted the Trumpian, “lie about everything you speak about,” tactic which made her rebuttal as useless as everything her idol says.

Maybe it’s just as well because it was following a speech that crushed Trump, the GOP, and all their goals.

When Katie claimed that Biden was diminished and decrepit it was really Trump that she was describing. In fact, as stated by Max Brooks, everything Brett said was aimed at Trump, the would-be dictator, because that’s the way it always is in totalitarian countries and totalitarian is exactly where Trump wants to take us.

Just to establish Katie’s credentials before we forget her, you might want to know that she was one of the writers of the border bill that gave the GOP everything it wanted but when she and her buddies were ready to vote on their work they were told by Trump to drop it because he wanted chaos, not a solution at the border, and so she voted against it. That’s the GOP and Katie’s version of an integrity move.

Just in case you were worried, little Katie hasn’t lost her cheerleader smile or her engaging personality. Go Tide.

Caught Sara Longwell publisher of Bulwark on The Weekend Saturday morning. She spoke to people’s perception of Biden’s ability to grasp reality and deal with the results. They never talk about Trump’s ability to grasp reality because they know it just doesn’t exist. Trump may not appear senile but there can be no doubt he is flat out insane. It isn’t always what he says, although he mostly talks like a raving maniac. It’s that be appears to believe what he’s saying no matter how it is at odds with reason and logic and almost constantly seeking a goal that is at war with everything that is beneficial to this country and the people who live in it.

Two major examples of this are the border, and the war in Ukraine. The Democrats, have, along with certain members of the GOP, presented congress with a working solution to the border crisis and a plan on how to progress. It looked like it was going to happen until Trump stepped in and told his sycophants to pass on it. They have and the border is in chaos and will remain that way until Trump is crushed.

His support of Vladimir Putin and Russia in Ukraine comes as no surprise. Putin backed Trump in the last election and he’s backing him now. Trump all but kissed Putin’s ass in public when last they met and gave him every expectation that he would abandon Ukraine to Putin’s tender mercies. He’s trying. You got to give him credit, but there is no benefit in that for us. Not for us and not for any part of western Europe. Elect Trump and watch as Russian troops invade Poland, Finland, and the Balkans. And if we want to stop them at that point it will mean American troops on the ground and in the fight, If Trump commits them, which he probably won’t, and we will then face the fact of Russia retaking all of Eastern Europe.

And finally, for those who are complaining that the State of the Union was a campaign speech, tough shit. Biden needed to show the American public the side of him that has accomplished more in three years than any other American president in the last fifty. He did that in spades. He showed us a tough, resilient, mean side that put Marjorie Taylor-Greene and her like in their places and served notice that there’s a sheriff back in town and if you cross him, he’ll blow you away.
