Bye Bye DeSantis

Rep. Troy Nehls of Texas, one of our slimier congressmen, has declared that there will be no deal on money for Ukraine if the GOP thinks it will help Biden. Hey Troy, it’s about helping Ukraine.

In addition, the Republicans in congress are saying that they will close the government if the border is not closed.

Let’s talk about this abdication of authority and responsibility by Nehls and his fellow GOP clowns. Their reasoning, if it can be called that, goes something like this: We don’t want Biden to close the border or solve the border crisis because it will give him a huge boost in his campaign. If we give him the money he will solve the problem, and if we don’t give him the money, he will say its our fault.

There would be no problem at all if the GOP members of congress stopped worrying about an election they are going to lose anyway, and tried to be helpful by doing what they were elected to do, solve problems. If they give Biden the money to solve the border crisis along with Ukraine and Israel, they can then brag about what good little congressmen they are and maybe save jobs they do not deserve. They can consider this tutorial a charitable donation to the tragically dumb.

The solution would be simple if we weren’t dealing with the current GOP.

The solution to thousands of illegal immigrants flooding the border is more border guards and many more hearing officers. That costs money.

It works like this. Immigrants cross the border and are caught by ICE, or just turn themselves in and claim asylum. They are assigned hearing dates, sometimes as much as four-years in the future and are then turned loose in the US to await that hearing date. What happens to them? Well, the majority, just as immigrants always have, find a place to wait, get an illegal job and settle in to raise a family.  A few will turn to crime which is what some people did wherever they came from. Most never show up for their hearings and are just absorbed into the population, so we end up with many thousands of illegals living and working in this country. It’s a good thing for the labor market, but generally a bad thing for society.

What we need is enough hearing officers and control managers to adjudicate the claims by the immigrants in a few days and send back the ones who are ruled illegal. Yes, that sounds expensive but it’s a hell of a lot cheaper than what were doing now and it’s the right way to handle the situation. It will allow the government to know where the immigrants are and enable it to help them when necessary.

On Wednesday Donald Trump declared that contrary to earlier announcements he would not be a dictator on day one of his Presidency. He had looked at the big picture and decided that he just didn’t need to be a dictator to do the work he planned for that auspicious day. He had been informed, probably by the same people who advised him on 1/6, that as President and Commander in Chief of the military he would be able to order Seal Team Six to assassinate his political rivals without being a dictator, so full speed ahead!

He also declared that in the last year he had been responsible for saving over two million lives by appointing the three Right Wing Judges that enabled the Supreme Court to cancel Roe and end legal abortion in this country. Now we all know that Trump doesn’t read, so maybe we can excuse his not knowing how unpopular that particular move has been. He can, however, speak. Way too much in fact, so maybe he should just say goodbye and retire to his various trial sites to see if he can manage to stay out of jail.

Ron DeSantis was asked a very simple question on Sunday. “Do you think Trump has the character to be President?” It seems like a question that should be easy to answer if you know what character is, but DeSantis flunked. Does that mean he doesn’t know what character is or does it mean he doesn’t have enough character himself to answer the question truthfully? Either way he has proved that he doesn’t have enough of what it takes to be President, which is probably why he pulled out of the race on Sunay.

Greg Abbott has a problem. There can be no argument about that, but he isn’t trying to find a solution.  He’s just using the problem to make problems for everyone else. In case you don’t know, Greg Abbott is the Governor of Texas. As such he has inherited the mantle of stupidity by which the last few Texas governors have been identified.  Greg hasn’t tried to do anything to overcome his reputation for ignorance, in fact, he’s helped it grow by many of the moves he’s made and things he’s said over the course of his governance. Among the latest of his blunders is the practice of shipping Latino immigrants out of his state to northern states in the middle of cruel winter weather. If Greg had any brains at all he’d know that the picture of a five-year-old child dressed in shorts and a tee shirt standing in front of a closed civic building at 2AM in 20-degree weather will not help his already disgusting image, not even with the MAGA crowd. There are plenty of places in the south that could be absorbing te immigrants, but Greg just doesn’t think that way. He thinks like Trump. He wants to punish the immigrants and the northen cities when he should be trying to help the immigrants and reduce, or at least mitigate the problem. But poor old Greg just isn’t bright enough to see the advantages of acting like a human being. Greg didn’t make this problem. In fact, he’s a victim too. Expecting one state to absorb all these immigrants, most of them illegal, just isn’t right, but instead of declaring his victimhood and asking the Feds for help, Greg decided to act like a tough guy punk and just made the problem worse.

On Monday night Nikki Haley stood in front of a crowd of Iowa supporters and gave a speech that sounded like she hadn’t just finished third in a three-person race. I don’t know what the hell Niki Haley is doing in this race. She has the personality and the background to be a serious contender but she’s so worried about getting Trump mad at her and crushing any chance at the VP job, that she has already blown any chance she might have had of grabbing it. There is no other way of competing with Trump than by getting down in the dirt and slugging it out. Anything else and he just rolls over you. Nikki is so enamored of being VP that she is willing to debase herself to any extent to get the job. That won’t work, and she’s doing nothing but proving that she isn’t the girl for the job.

The frontrunner for the VP job is Elise Stefanik who is more than willing to debase herself for anything and actually shows a special talent for it.

I got a chance to watch some footage of the Iowa Caucuses today and it was pretty shocking. These are the people who have denied what most experts have called the most secure election in US history. These are the people who have declared the 2020 election to have been rigged in Biden’s favor and swear that Trump won. So, let’s take a look at how they handle security for their caucuses. They take a paper grocery bag and pass it hand to hand down a line of people who drop what is supposed to be a single piece of paper with a candidate’s name on it into the bag, and then one man reads off the names on the slips of paper and another one counts those votes.  No one checks to see if the guy reading the names is actually reading what’s written on the slips and no one checks that the counter has given a straight count, but that’s okay. Trump wins. That’s how the GOP runs its elections, but that’s okay because we have their word that it was all done honestly.

  1. It is heartening to me to read that you believe the GOP won’t win the election anyway. I hope you are right. What I remember is that sane people in 2016 thought the Democrats would win, hands down, because Trump was so preposterous. Guess what, he still is, more than ever, despite being clothed in crime, and the GOP still loves him because they believe he can and will win. As he did in 2016.
